When the tires on Jennifer Chavez’s 2019 Corvette Racing Yellow Z06 started losing air, her Georgia tire store told her the problem wasn’t the tires, it was the wheels.

Yes, she had fallen victim to the ongoing saga of cracked GM wheels, a problem the company finally owned up to after multiple lawsuits filed by customers.

GM agreed to pay the repair and replacement costs for the defective wheels, sending letters to certain 2015-19 owners about the Corvette Wheels Limited Special Reimbursement Program.

“I love this car,” Chavez says. “It is a fantastic automobile, but obviously I have to have wheels on that vehicle.”

To continue enjoying that “fantastic” Corvette, Chavez had already bought some other used wheels to keep it on the road back in October 2023, so when the Dallas, Georgia woman heard about GM’s special program, she filed a claim to get her money back plus a new set of wheels – a total reimbursement of $7,834.75.

That was seven months ago. Still no money in Chavez’s pocket.

In response to an Atlanta TV station’s investigation, GM contacted Chavez but passed the buck, arguing “at this point, it’s out of their hands” because the claims are being handled by a third-party company named Analytics Consulting out of Chanhassen, Minnesota. WSB-TV reporter Justin Gray says he’s now waiting to hear back from Analytics Consulting.

  1. That’s GM for you. They either pass the buck or do nothing for their customers. Another example is the fueling fix for the Z06’s and, I’m sure, the ZR1’s that are already in service. Oh sure, they’re putting the fuel fix on the cars at the assembly plant but letting the most vulnerable cars wait. I hope this lady gets this resolved quickly. It should have been resolved months ago.

  2. Rather than leave the car parked, buy some aftermarket wheels. If my C7 wheels develop cracks, I won’t be replacing them with more C7 GM wheels.

  3. The settlement gave GM so much wiggle room that I never bothered even wasting my time filing a claim. I just bought a set of non-GM forged wheels and whenever the opportunity arises to trash GM explaining why I changed from OEM wheels to these I DO IT AT LENGTH. And I’m a former GM employee collecting a GM pension

  4. My ’19 GS had a rear wheel crack within 500 miles of owning the car. I was just driving to work, same roads I drive my C4 (with C6 wheels) every day, and then I suddenly started to lose air pressure. That claim document gave them so much wiggle room that there was no point in filing it. I knew I’d never see a dime. GM knew this was an issue, they drive these cars on the proving ground and in the wild extensively, they just pass the buck until everything is out of warranty or ignore it.

  5. This is one reason I will never buy another GM or Corvette from GM. You always have to fight the dealership or GM for warranty service. I also have a Porsche Panamera in addition to my Corvette Grand Sport and I never run into this kind of problem with Porsche. If I ever have a problem with my car for warranty related issues, the only response I get is “no problem sir, we will take care of this for you.” And most of the time at no charge. No arguing with Porsche or the dealership. That’s how business should be. Porsche wants me to be happy because they want me to keep coming back to buy new cars. GM will not get any more of my business. I hope they go bankrupt, but I know that is wishful thinking.

  6. It’s the CEO and the Board. Their bonus structure is predicated on profit and with all the recalls they drag their feet to insure the profits didn’t fall below certain thresholds. A big law firm should institute a RICO action to force payments. Additionally, the “volunteer” recall was their planned process to game revenue and maximize bonuses! Someone due to the wheels Transmissions, gas leaks, valve train etc issues please commence a RICO action against HM!

  7. Same issue here, my passenger rear Wheel 20″ was losing air and took it to a wheel repair place to weld and repair the wheel. It is fixed for now but obviously has additional wheel weights to keep it balanced. Come on GM, do the right thing.
