Our friend Justin from HorsePower Obsessed YouTube channel has a new video out today and he talks about some of the rumors surrounding the upcoming Grand Sport and he’s got something interesting news about the ZR1X as well. We haven’t covered any real Grand Sport news since this test mule was spied a few months ago, so it’s good to have something new to discuss.
Justin points to a source of his confirming several points about the exterior of the upcoming Grand Sport. He says it will have a similar side intake design to that of the Z06, and the front grille is the same as the Z06. However, it’s different as the center portion will be completely closed off similar to that on the Stingray’s grill with that area set aside for mounting a front license plate. Justin believes the car will be in 2027 which aligns with what others are saying as well.
As for the ZR1X, we’ve always been perplexed by that ZR1 configurator leak that showed the extra carbon fiber splats in the front wheel wells. We were told it was just an error, and after a cleanup on aisle 12, so far it has yet to return. But Justin says there is more to the story. He claims to have seen some Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings of the ZR1X which had the fender splat in place, and there was a secondary smaller dive plane on top of the current one. Justin claims to have the GM part numbers for these aero pieces and that they are showing up in searches, so he’s pretty adamant that it’s going to happen. And because of that goof in the configurator back in February, it sounds like he’s right.

What do you guys think of the aero change for the ZR1x? Are you interested in a C8 Grand Sport?

What color is the Grey ZR!X from the configuration with the dive planes on it?
Why did Chevy wait so late into the C8 cycle to bring us the Grand Sport? This shouldve been available after the Z06 hit the market.
Too many models. GM will eventually pair them done.
The C7 Grand Sport had a short life cycle, starting a couple of years after the Z06. Assuming C8 production to go through 2029 (as some are predicting), the life cycle for a C8 Grand Sport would be MY 2027 to 2029 – similar to that of the C7. Now that most if not all of the wide-body variants are announced and in production, it makes sense to add one more wide-body variant as the Stingray has been overproduced and production will be ramped down. It will be the opposite of how the Stingray/Z06 production started out with the Z06 causing line disruptions due to the difference in time to build each variant. Now that the vast majority will be wide bodies the Stingray will be the line disruptor and fewer will be build. Efficiencies in the plant to build wide bodies along with a higher overall profit margin on the wide body variants makes lots of sense. Add in a new LT3 engine available in the GS and a new spike in demand will continue to boost sales. I had a C7 GS – fabulous car. I would have waited for a C8 GS but Tadge said that was what the E-Ray was supposed to be. So I went for a C8 Z06 instead. A GS in the C8 lineup would be a sweet spot as it was in the C7.
Ha ha! You said “splat!” It’s “spat!”
More baseless rumor mill, powered by wishes and technophobes who vainly believe that removing the hybrid motor from the ER will somehow result in a GS that only costs 5 grand over SR base MSRP. GM isn’t going to debut the 6th gen SBC on the C8. GS has never had a HP bump over the SR.
The icing on the cake will be the 1/4 times proving that the GS is the slowest of all variants, and truly is only for posers who couldn’t be bothered to put 345’s on their SR. Meanwhile, GM cannot even keep up with existing widebody production.
The GS was always intended to improve the SR’s base performance with Z06 parts. But the M/R configuration already has mitigated most of that. For those keeping score, the C7 SR was 3.8s. C7 GS was 3.6s. C7 Z06 was 3.2s. C8 SR is 2.9s. C8 Z06 is 2.6s. How in the heck are you going to add wider tires, bigger body with bigger drag penalty, bigger/heavier brakes, 0 added power, and somehow hit 2.75s or so?
If you poop in your other hand, it will fill up faster than your C8GS wishes.
