This 1966 Corvette convertible won’t win any NCRS ribbons for originality, but it absolutely delivers in the fun department.
With a Bowtie block 454, a four speed, and a fresh triple black makeover, this C2 Corvette is all about presence, torque, and attitude.
And bidders seem to agree — the Bring a Trailer auction has already climbed to an apropos $30,454, with six days still on the clock.
The car started life in Silver Pearl, but a previous owner transformed it into a full Tuxedo Black machine, complete with additional paintwork under the current seller. The domed hood and rear deck were resprayed this year, and the exterior received a clear coat refresh. A black soft top, removable hardtop, flip up headlights, chrome bumpers, and a retractable antenna round out the look.
Rolling stock consists of 15-inch Turbine style aluminum wheels with knock off spinners wrapped in Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts. The seller notes refurbished suspension and added power steering — welcome upgrades for anyone planning to enjoy the car rather than preserve it. Four-wheel disc brakes handle stopping duties.
Inside, the triple black theme continues with black leather seat covers, replacement carpeting, a heater, analog clock, cassette stereo, and lap belts. The tachometer (6,500 rpm redline) and 80 lb oil pressure gauge were reportedly installed during the engine swap. The five-digit odometer shows an unverified 87k miles.
The heart of the build is the Bowtie block 454, installed in 2010 and built with serious hardware: a GM Performance Parts block (casting 10051107) featuring a 9.8-inch deck height, four bolt mains, and siamesed cylinder walls. A four-barrel carb, MSD ignition, and polished valve covers complete the package. Power goes to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual.
The trim tag confirms the car’s origins:
• Style 66 467 – 1966 Corvette convertible
• Body S6018 – St. Louis body number
• Trim STD – Black vinyl
• Paint 986 – Silver Pearl
It may not be factory correct, but this C2 is still very appealing for anyone who values sound, stance, and seat of the pants excitement over strict originality. And with a big block under the hood and two tops included, it’s easy to see why the bidding is heating up.
