[VIDEO] C4 Corvette Has Some Trouble Getting Ramped Up

Is that Evel Knievel behind the wheel of this viral video that captures quite a jump for a C4 Corvette?

No, it’s not the legendary daredevil, but this video does provide ample proof that plastic ramps designed for routine maintenance work like oil changes aren’t always as easy to use as you might think.

I remember years ago trying to get my C5 to roll backwards up a set of these ramps, which kept sliding backwards with the tires. I finally got the ramps to remain still by putting the ramps on a roughly textured stretch of my driveway.

In this case, we hear the driver mumble “please don’t be a terrible idea” as he climbs into the car, the back tires of his C4 already carefully lined up next to the ramps.

As the driver applies the gas and begins rolling, he notices the back of the ramps begin to lift off the driveway.

But instead of stopping, he just guns it and the ramps go scooting forward and the car actually jumps them, leaving the ramps underneath the center of the Corvette, right below his feet.

Fortunately, the car apparently wasn’t damaged during the incident, but it definitely makes me think it sure is a lot easier – and safer – to just pay a shop to change your oil, while not really costing that much more.

While many of us still enjoy the self-satisfaction of doing maintenance work on our Corvettes, the older I get, the more my aching back convinces me to avoid doing so. This video just affirms that decision.

  1. I have plastic ramps… his mistake? Putting them on the seam of the drive to garage. It wasn’t a solid placement.

Out comes the jack and explaining it… 🙂

  2. I have purchased the QuickJack system and it is great. I got the 5000lb set and can pull all 4 wheels for cleaning, while dropping the oil & filter. I can roll around under for full inspection.
