[VIDEO] Another Round of Z06 Owners Driving the E-Ray for the First Time

Had I known then what I know now…

That’s what a C8 Corvette Z06 owner named Darrell said after test driving the 655-hp AWD Corvette E-Ray. And he wasn’t finished. After punching the accelerator when the light turns green, Darrell says “Oh, that is amazing. And the neat thing is it’s under you, you feel totally in control. I mean it’s not with my Z06, I’ll get some movement, you know to the sides. But this was just straight as it could…incredible, what a great feel.

Darrell was one of two Z06 owners who recently drove Mike Brink’s 2024 Corvette E-Ray and from their comments, I’d say we have a couple of more converts to Chevy’s hybrid performance machine. This is the second installment of Brink of Speed’s Z06 owners trying the E-Ray and both agree that unless you’re planning on tracking your Z06, the E-Ray may be the better machine for the street. You can watch the first of the series here.

Darrell even managed to do a 0-60 MPH sprint in 2.6 seconds and that was without launch control. While at another stop light, Darrell gave his thoughts to Mike and said he really loves the feel of the E-Ray compared to the Z06 on the street. “I think for the cost and the performance of what I know about the cars today, I would prefer the E-Ray.

Next up was Mike’s friend Rob who actually tracks his C8 Corvette Z06. After spending a couple minutes in the car, he tells Mike, “Crazy, I wasn’t expecting that. ” “The torque…the power, it hits you with a force that you really, really can feel. Yeah, a completely different feeling than Z06,” he says.

Rob goes on to say that for Z06 owners, the sound that the flat-plane crank makes is a big part of the overall experience. “The sound of that motor, it’s crazy. I mean it just it’s a big part of the car of the thrill of having a Z06, but when you hammer the accelerator, it explodes in this noise.” Rob goes on to say that with the E-Ray, he’s feeling the power and the torque, but without the sonic noise that the Z06 generates. “Mike, this thing is way faster than what I thought it was going to be. Holy crap,” says the Z06 owner.

If you are on the fence about owning either the Z06 or E-Ray, give this video a watch!

  1. I don’t know, it’s so new and with estimated electric motor replacement cost between $5-$10k and only a 3-year warranty? Give me 4-years or I’ll wait until it has a few years under its belt.

  2. Any experience with an E Ray that sits during winter months? How does that effect the battery?

  3. The most telling part of this for me, was the comments section on YT. Huge parade of fanbois who don’t even own a C8 taking lethal amounts of Copium and talking smack.

I guess it simply doesn’t occur to people that it’s not a competition between the Z and ER. GM designed the Z to be a Ferrari competitor, and the ER to be a Bentley competitor. Two completely different functions.

Everyone who says stupid stuff like “I can just get a plaid for less money” remains patently ignorant of the zeitgeist in play. GM made a proper grand touring car out of the C8. The only thing missing is a Cadillac with the ER powertrain–aimed at Rolls Royce.

  4. Great videos Mike. ERay testimonials by Z06 drivers should be very helpful for anyone “on the fence” about the ERAy.

  5. I was disappointed that u made no mention of the difference in handling on the street other than to say it road softer and hooked up better. I was hoping to learn something about steering feel and chassis dynamics on imperfect street surfaces of both cars.
I get that the e-ray is quicker than the Z06. All wheel drive and an extra 200 ftp of toque will do that.
