If you can’t quite afford the $175,000+ price tag of the soon-to-be-produced first-year 2025 ZR1s, then maybe this older ZR-1 debutante might fit your wallet a little better.
This black-on-black 1990 ZR-1 – the first year the fourth-generation model was available – is up for sale on Craigslist out of the Leander, Texas area (a little north of Austin) for only $26,500.
Photos seem to indicate a pretty nice car, especially for the money. Says the owner, his 30,000-mile beauty “runs and drives great! It’s ready for the next owner.”
He says everything on the car works except for the antenna motor, and “quite a few new parts” have been installed lately.
The star of the show, of course, is the double overhead cam, 32-valve 5.7-liter LT5 aluminum engine that produced 375 horsepower and was designed in a collaboration between General Motors and Lotus and assembled by Mercury Marine in Stillwater, Oklahoma. All of them were mated with ZF six-speed manual transmissions.
In all, 3,032 ZR-1s were produced that first year, with the option adding $27,016 to the base MSRP of $31,979. This particular car wound up listing for $60,610 after the $180 Electronic Air Conditioning and $915 Dual Removable Roof Panels were added.
The window sticker and the build sheet are included with the sale.
The owner says this car features what he calls the ’89 ZR-1 rare pre-production wheels. Like all ZR-1s, this one also has the unique widebody panels, including doors, rear quarters, rockers, rear fascia, and rear upper panel, as well as a specially laminated “solar” windshield.
The black interior is said to remain in “great” condition, with all parts still functional.
Among the new parts (with receipts available) are FX3 shocks, AYBKG5 Haibeck Auto Chip, Billet fuel pressure regulator, NGK Iridium spark plugs, stainless FIC injectors, intake hoops, vacuum lines/seals, dual fuel pumps, fuel filter, Stainless Works headers with free-flow cats, OBX Exhaust/MID, and engine oil/filter. The differential fluid was changed at 28,000 miles, and the Nitto tires are described as “newer.”
If you’re going for the most fun for the bucks, this 35-year-old ZR-1 might be just the ticket.

Looks like a nice, unmolesteded early example of the 1st-run C4 ZR-1. Best of luck to the seller. That said, Craigslist is decidedly the wrong venue for cars of particular interest, like this one. This special vehicle deserves to be on BaT, Cars and Bids, or Hemmings. It would not only sell faster, but would bring the seller more money. Save Craigslist for when you’re trying to unload junior’s 180k mile high school Oldsmobuick, before he heads to college.
Total BS. I bought my 1969 Chevelle SS 396 black on black L78 4 SPD POST SEDAN on Craigslist. I didn’t find it. A friend of mine found it on there. If my friend had not seen the car on Craigslist, I never would have gotten it. If the car had been on Hemmings I would have missed it as I never look there.

My point wasn’t whether you -can- sell a classic vehicle of particular interest on Craigslist. It was that, as a seller, there are multiple other venues exclusively focused on those types of vehicles, that will provide maximum exposure to the buyer community that will provide you maximum return. Buyers who are serious about paying top dollar for unique cars are almost exclusively hawking the venues dedicated to those vehicles.
