[VIDEO] C8 Z06 Owners Drive the AWD Corvette E-Ray and Offer their Opinions

If there is one debate raging in the Corvette Nation, it’s the discussion of which high performance C8 Corvette to purchase. Initially, the C8 Z06 was in a class of performance all by itself, with a naturally-aspirated 670-hp 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine that has the ability to rev past 8,000 RPM while offering its own unique soundtrack. It’s no wonder the Z06 is sometimes called the American Ferrari due to its similarities to the Ferrari 458 on which the engine was based upon.

But then the Corvette E-Ray came on the scene offering something that had never been offered before in a Corvette: All-Wheel Drive. The benefits of AWD in the Corvette cannot be understated as it offers amazing grip and straight-line launches that don’t have you fearing about the rear-end getting all squirrely on you. With the combination of the Stingray’s 495-hp V8 and perhaps more importantly, its 470 lb-ft of torque which occurs lower on the powerband than the Z06, it offers exceptional fun without having to drive at a higher RPM which is where the Z06’s fury and sound come alive.

Not better, just different. It’s that the demographic that the ER will appeal to is a much broader and diverse group than the Z06 will appeal to–especially if given the opportunity drive both. But for those who crave what the Z06 is–the ER will never suffice. And for everyone else, the ER is probably much preferred.

Eray offers so much more for less money. Awd ceramic brakes and all that torque for less.

I have an eray, traded in my 3LT c8 stingray this fall. Couldn’t be happier. It just goes when you put your foot down and it’s unbelievable. Love it for the daily drive. Take it to hockey, take it on long drives for trips, it’s my perfect car. I will never track it and don’t want to. I can only imagine what the Zora is going to bring to the table.
