Corvettes for Sale: Helen's 1960 Corvette Owned for 60 years

Excuse us just a minute while we go rake our Corvette.

Yes, we said, rake our Corvette.

That out-of-the-ordinary task is just the beginning of a ton of work that will be needed to bring this 1960 convertible barn find back to life as the trunk and even the engine block are littered with leaves after the car was stored outdoors for about 30 years.

But the restoration might be worth it to the right person, who could enjoy sharing the history of this vintage C1 that was owned by more than 59 years by a lady named Helen Simpson.

She bought the car in Indiana on February 24, 1965 and is said to have gotten her little sports car out to drive and enjoy mostly for special occasions and nice weather, racking up just 61,570 miles in the process.

Eventually, as Helen grew older, she wasn’t able to enjoy the car as much and it eventually wound up sitting under a lean-to for about 30 years before being rescued by the person who’s now selling it on eBay and suggesting it could be a great foundation for a potential resto-mod. With six days left in the auction, the high bid has climbed to $17,550.

Unfortunately, during the decades that this Corvette was parked outside, various parts like the intake, carburetor, and transmission along with some of the beauty rings and center caps were “borrowed” by other folks.

Now that it’s been scavenged, however, the car could certainly be turned into a resto-mod without the new owner feeling guilty about messing with one of the 10,261 Corvettes that were built at the start of an exciting new decade.

The year’s most popular paint color, Ermine White, originally adorned this car, but now it’ll definitely require a new coating. At least the fiberglass body appears to be undamaged by accidents, looking through photos with the listing.

The interior, meanwhile, will also require a lot of attention, including new seats and carpet for starters, though on the bright side, the speedometer and auxiliary gauges are still there.

Under the hood, what’s left of the rusty engine could perhaps be easily replaced by a more modern and powerful powerplant from a later-model Corvette.

We love the photo showing the Corvette peeking out from the lean-to that had been its home for so long. Would you be willing to take on the task of restoring this historic car, knowing it would no doubt make Helen Simpson proud?

  1. You can buy one already restored for under $80,000. Why would anyone want this mess? It would take years of work and tons of money, no matter how you build it. The only thing that might work is building a vintage drag race car and leaving it in the rough.

  2. Here is a novel idea, an EV conversion: Average cost of a complete conversion kit is between $7,000 and $15,000, minus the donor car and battery you choose. These type of kits include the motor, controller, charger, battery management system, wiring, and accessories.

    Thanks,
    Ray

  3. That Vette is definitely worth fixing up! If I had the cash I would do it.Definitely not ev what are you NUTS? I sure hope someone buys it.
