[VIDEO] The Corvette ZR1X Makes the Koenigsegg Jesko Look Jesk-Slow! But What About the Nevera?

Whenever we are fortunate enough to see the ZR1 vs. SF90 or even ZR1X vs. Lucid for the title of “Quickest Car in the World,” there’s always the shadow of a doubt hanging over the matchup; a 3,100-lb gorilla in the room, if you will, because in the extremely rarified air above where even Ferrari flies, exists a breed of boutique hypercars that aren’t readily accessible even for the likes of Car and Driver, Hagerty, or Jay Leno.

Most of the names floating around up there are pretty inconsequential like Zenvo and Apollo, but there’s a couple very serious members of “extremely limited production” club. Thanks to the Hamilton Collection’s YouTube channel and Paragon Performance, the mass-produced and comparatively very attainable – pedestrian, even – C8 Corvette ZR1X is getting a shot at the two most mystical of these exotic, unobtainable beasts.

Corvette ZR1X vs Koenigsegg Jesko

Will it rise to the challenge like a down on his luck Philly everyman Rocky Balboa when his number got called to fight the world champ, or is there still a gap between Bezos-level motoring and the best that a workingman can hope for? Before mashing play, here’s the data you should know going in:

First up, from Sweeden, we have the $3.5 million Koenigsegg Jesko. It checks in just over the previously alluded to gorilla weight and motivates that C5 Z06-worth of mass with a twin-turbo 5-liter V8 that features the world’s lightest V-8 crankshaft – at just 28 pounds – and a crankshaft crafted from a single solid-steel billet. On pump gas, that means 1,280 horsepower and 1,106 lb-ft of torque all sent to the back wheels (that can also steer) through what the firm calls the Light Speed Transmission, an in-house design that uses multiple clutches to shift faster than any regular DCT on the market. Working against it in this straight-line contest is an aero kit that makes 1,764 lbs. of downforce at 155 MPH and maxes out at 3,086 lbs.

Corvette ZR1X vs Rimac Nevera

If the kid from Kentucky can somehow outduel that spaceship, it’ll earn the right to face off against the Guinness Record holder for basically every acceleration metric known to man; the Croatian Rimac Nevera. It’s an all-electric missile just like the Lucid and Tesla Plaid, except, instead of a large luxury sedan that’s preoccupied by range, it’s an all-out two-door performance machine that famously set 23 speed records in a single day. The $2.2-3 million EV’s four motors combine for an astounding 1,914 HP spread out between all four wheels. As we like to say about electrics, though, with great power comes great weight; and in this case, that’d be 5,071-pounds – for context, a base 7-seat Chevy Tahoe can undercut 5,400 lbs… and it’s a full-size SUV. We’d also be remis if we didn’t mention that while each example of the Jesko was enthusiastically pre-sold, even Rimac isn’t immune to the public’s disinterest in cars that don’t say “vroom, vroom,” and hasn’t sold out of its planned 150-unit run of Neveras in literal years of trying.

Finally, “Rocky,” America’s $225,000 underdog that enters the ring with a mix of the other car’s powertrains. It features a mid-mounted twin-turbo V8 displacing 5.5L and an electrified front axle that team up to make 1,250 total ponies. Like Ferrari, Chevy has become self-conscious about the weight of its fast cars, so it lists the X as 3,914 lbs. “dry,” meaning without any of the fluids it needs to properly operate. As it sits, we’ve seen numbers climb into the neighborhood of 4,125-4,155 lbs. With its trick launch system and AWD still capable of launching that mass through the quarter in the 8s, it has a fighting chance, here.

With those facts in mind, let’s play the tape!
