[ACCIDENT] C8 Corvette Goes Flying Off an L.A. Highway and Crashes into a Maserati Dealership

A high speed crash that looked unsurvivable on video ended with two people walking away early Wednesday morning after a C8 Corvette launched off the 60 Freeway, flipped repeatedly, and slammed into a Maserati dealership in California’s City of Industry.

The wreck happened around 1:45 a.m. near the Azusa Avenue/Gale Avenue exits, where a blue Corvette traveling at what witnesses described as “well over 110 mph” veered across multiple lanes before losing control.

Rear camera footage obtained by KTLA shows the Corvette darting left toward the center lanes, then suddenly cutting hard to the right, slicing across traffic. The sports car struck a guardrail, went airborne, and rolled several times in midair before crashing into the Maserati of Puente Hills dealership.

A witness who asked not to be identified said he believed the Corvette had been racing other vehicles moments before impact.

“They ended up sideswiping me at probably well over 110 mph,” he said.

The California Highway Patrol has not confirmed whether street racing was involved, and investigators are still determining the vehicle’s exact speed.

The crash carved a destructive path:

• A concrete light pole was snapped at its base.
• Roughly 30 feet of chain link fencing was torn out.
• Several large showroom windows were shattered.
• The Corvette came to rest on its side against the dealership’s exterior wall.
• Despite the dramatic scene, the dealership manager said no Maseratis were damaged.
• A building and safety team was called to inspect the structure for stability.

According to a CHP news release, the driver was identified as Damian Cho of Chatsworth, California. Investigators say Cho was traveling westbound at speeds exceeding 100 mph when he swerved left to avoid slower traffic, clipped a white BMW, and then lost control.

The Corvette then careened across all westbound lanes, struck the perimeter fence, overturned multiple times, and finally collided with the dealership building.

Amazingly, both Cho and his passenger suffered only minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

CHP officials have not yet determined:

• The precise speed of the Corvette
• Whether alcohol or drugs were involved
• Whether street racing contributed to the crash

The incident is currently being investigated as a property damage collision, though that could change as more information becomes available.

The CHP continues to review video evidence, witness statements, and physical damage patterns to determine the cause of the crash. No arrests or citations had been announced as of Wednesday afternoon.

  1. City of Industry. Nuff said.

I used to live there; big import & street racing scene…and that was before The Fast & The Furious came out in 2001!

Thanks for attending my TED Talk.

  2. Hm… stupid shows itself again… I am glad I don’t do auto insurance!

If he was on a mission to take out Maserati’s, he failed.

And Boba Fett is right… The farther east you go, the wilder the import street racing gets. I am near the Port of LA and those jerks are out on the 110 freeway leaving skid marks, night after night. Plus, they like zipping around us on the local streets.
