We heard about this during our visit to Corvettes at Carlisle last week, and now we finally got some video to share of the incident. Apparently, at one of the installer tents, a four-post lift had a cable failure, and it buckled with a Rapid Blue C8 Corvette stuck on it.
Having seen lift failures happen before, the solution was to call in a flat-bed wrecker who positioned the rollback carefully to allow the Corvette to be backed off of the lift and onto the wrecker.
We originally believed it was due to the lift being set up on the grass, but Dan says in the comments it was installed on a concrete pad with the broken cable being the culprit, and the video does show that. But we can also see that the lift was just sitting on the concrete pad and not bolted down which may have added to the instability. Others in the comments are also chiming in about the importance of the safety latches.
We’d say that 99% of attendees at Corvettes at Carlisle who participated in an install on their rides had a flawless experience, but when an incident happens like this, it sort of gives us pause if we would want our Corvette on an unsecured lift. Before having an install done at a show, it may be a good idea to discuss the installer’s safety features and what would happen should your car get damaged in a lift failure.
Once again, kudos to those involved with the successful rescue of this C8 Corvette Stingray!

Frustratingly bad camera work!
Good Job, all the C8s I’ve seen fall off lifts looked to be Totaled, this one was Saved! Lucky Guy/Woman 🍀🙏
@DougR – the camera work was limited by not getting in the way… I will give him a pass.
As for the incident itself… it could have been a lot worse. The lift failed low, it appears… and it was a 4 poster with platforms, not lift rails, so it wasn’t like the car had fallen off. It could have been REAL ugly, but this surely was scary!!!
Good job by the crew who rescued the Vette!! I hope the owner bought them lunch!
Did I miss something….Whos lift was it…. you don’t go to a car show…. to have equipment installed on a $120K car….
Way too many people trying to “save” the Corvette, looked like a Chinese fire drill. I have two of those racks. They’re made for parking, not working on. I could have gotten the car down with a off-recovery jack (the one that’s about 4 ft tall) and one other person. Tow truck was unnecessary and just increased the risk of damage.
That’s awful. The guy brings his nice C8 to Corvettes at Carlisle to have fun and this happens to ruin his day. I would never consider letting anyone install parts on my Corvette at any car show. I’ll stick to the service shops or maybe do it myself.
Could have been worse. Being the drivers side front wheel was hanging off the ground for a while, I think a frontend alignment is in order…………….
Tell us the lift was not made in China or the cable was not from China to save a few bucks. 😒
To many negative comments here when the facts are not known. Any brand 4 post lift can have a broken cable, but I’m guessing it was due to the set up at the event and the cable was out of place. The safety catches can’t be engaged when lowering, so when did it break? Saying I wouldn’t buy that brand, why?
Bet ya that’s one of those made in china four posts. That’s why I paid a little more and got a Worth lift made in America.
