If it seems like the 2024 Corvette E-Ray’s production ramp up is taking longer than it did with the Z06s, you would be correct. Production of the E-Ray has been very deliberate in these first four and a half months with the number of cars produced daily very rarely exceeding double digits. We jumped back in time to see what the Z06s were doing at around the same time period, and they were producing upwards of 40 per day by the fifth month of the Z06’s production.

So while the E-Ray start-up has been baby steps versus being shot of the gate, there may be some signs that E-Ray production will soon be on the rise.

On Wednesday, the Corvette Assembly Plant completed the builds of 16 E-Rays. Looking back through Roger Kiel’s Unofficial Production Tracker, we find that amount ties the highest quantity of Corvette E-Rays completed in one day. The plant followed up with another 14 E-Rays over Thursday and Friday to end the week at 35 E-Rays completed. That’s also a new high for weekly E-Ray production.

While we’ve seen the E-Ray production totals to be all over the place during this ramp-up phase, we are always excited when the plant begins surpassing previous production highs.

The other news that we learned at the end of the week also has us feeling good about the E-Rays.

On Thursday, we learned from several dealers that they received only E-Ray allocations for the final May order cycle, with some getting multiple allocations. There’s only been a few E-Ray allocations since the first-round last fall, and those that had been granted were always just 1 car. So knowing that multiple dealers got E-Ray allocations this week is just another positive step in the ramp up.

Chevy’s 2024 production stats told us that they already had 604 E-Rays completed or scheduled for production as of April 1st. Now with another round of E-Ray allocations going out, we’ll be adding more to that total, and there’s a potential for a lot more as we know there will be ordering cycles through at least August 8th based on the 2024 color buildout dates.

What we’re hoping to see is that Chevy utilizes the rest of the 2024 model year to complete the ramp up so that when the 2025s start up, the E-Rays can come off the line to meet customer demand. We know it can be frustrating for buyers, but getting there requires these smaller steps and small successes like we saw this week.

  1. Customers worried about range. They’re worried about their battery and higher interest rates. They’re worried about infrastructure and charging. And the freedom just to go wherever they want to go?

Gm should be cautious in their production numbers. “Supply and demand”.

    Many thanks,
    Ray

  2. @Raylan – What on earth has your comment have to do with the article? Reading is fundamental. This has nothing to do with range, infrastructure, charging or battery. The E-Ray is a regen performance hybrid where there is no charging required, and the range is not relevant as the EV element is for performance or stealth mode only.
