The new hybrid Corvette E-Ray is inching closer to rolling on Australian roads later this year.

The 2024 model has been certified to operate on the nation’s roads after meeting the official Australian Design Rules (ADR), which include regulations for vehicle safety and compliance issues like occupant protection, structure, lighting, noise, braking, and exhaust emissions.

The release of the official ADR homologation data is actually a formality, since General Motors announced the E-Ray would be available in Australia more than a year ago.

Meeting ADR regulations, however, does mean that it looks like GM is on track to release the E-Ray – its first electrified and first all-wheel drive Corvette – in Australia in the second half of 2024, as expected.

The Australian version of the E-Ray will be similar to ones for North American markets. That means it will feature the 6.2-liter LT2 engine that powers the base Stingray models but will also be paired with a permanent magnet electric motor to produce 481kW, becoming the most powerful Corvette offered so far in Australia. The key difference, of course, is that the E-Ray will be right-hand drive.

RHD production is expected to begin at the assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky around the middle of 2024, with the first units arriving in Australia around September. Based on the current slow arrival of the E-Ray in North American markets, however, that target remains questionable.
