[VIDEO] C8 Corvette Z06 Rolls Against CT5-V Blackwing in Battle of GM's Finest

As your trusted source for all things Plastic and Fantastic, we CorvetteBloggers are obligated to share any and all ‘Vette-related content that we discover. When that content is video-related, it inevitably leads to complaints about obnoxious presenters from our audience, which is very much just here for the cars. If you are one of the many who harbor little patience for the nonsense that has come to define the YouTuber “career path,” we have the perfect all-action, to-the-point clip for you!

While General Motors is experiencing a bit of a lapse in the affordable performance department, the nameplates it’s stuck with have never been more compelling. To exemplify that point, we have today’s pair of straight-line competitors, which use vastly different road maps, but both end up within two measly horsepower of each other. The first is the main protagonist of our site over the past year and a half: the 2023 Corvette Z06. You know its specs well: high-revving mid-mounted 5.5L LT6 V8, 670 HP, and 460 lb-ft of torque, motivating around 3,660 pounds of angular coupe-y goodness.

Its familial rival comes from the luxury division of General Motors. The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing represents the panicle of four-door American performance. This super sedan comes armed with a beefed-up version of the same supercharged V8 that vaporized tires in the previous-generation Z06. In Blackwing guise, it makes 668 ponies and 659 torques – respective improvements of 18 and 9 vs. the C7 Z06. The whole package checks in at a fighting weight, just shy of 4,100 lbs.

The race organizers at Florida’s Bradenton Motorsports Park were kind to the front-engined Caddy when they mandated rolling starts. With the Z’s off-the-line advantage mitigated, it will have to prey on the V’s 440-pound load surplus. Meanwhile, the larger contestant can hang its hat on its 43% excess of twist. With three pulls only conspiring to take up 1:14 of your day, we’ll make you hit play to see how everything shakes out, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t comment on the sheer beauty of the duet being played out through the video’s eight combined tailpipes – especially when the 10-speed Cadillac is in the near lane. It’s enough to bring a tear of joy to the eye of even the most jaded American car enthusiast!

  1. It’s nice for a change to see a “to the point clip” that cuts to the chase with no stupidity, bullshit, fluff and boring dry stuff.

  2. The only battle I see is which one will get to the service center first for major repairs. Both my c7 Corvette and my Camaro had major issues with in a few years. A new trans under warranty for the Vette and emmisions issues for the Camaro. Sadly I am done with Chevy. The quality is no longer there in my opinion. There are better choices.

  3. ROLL RACING is more likely what you’ll do in the life of your ownership street highway etc dead stop only proves who has the best hookup roll racing shows who has the real goods !!

  4. To anyone that can answer this question for me. Doesn’t GM balance and blueprint these engines? I thought these engines were strong and that these cars were monsters. Reliability issues shouldn’t be present in these type of cars.
