Clint Eastwood may not have been behind the wheel of this 1972 Ford Gran Torino Sport at a recent drag race.

But the 93-year-old actor still manages to make a “cameo” appearance in a recent Cars & Zebras funfest on YouTube.

The owner of the Gran Torino (apparently not Clint, by the way) decided to have a little retro fun, taking on another old-timer, a ’62 Corvette, in a recent Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race at Mid Michigan Motorplex in Stanton.

Clint would have been proud as the Torino – with a 351 Cleveland V8 that cranks out 248 net horsepower and 299 lb-ft of torque and a four-speed manual transmission – manages to take three narrow wins over the last-year C1.

In the first round, the classic Chevy – which has the original base 327/250 gross horsepower V8 engine and two-speed Powerglide transmission and has been around long enough to watch the odometer flip over the 100k mark – manages a time of 16.21 seconds at a speed of 84.47 mph, slightly behind the Torino’s 15.87 seconds at 87.89 mph.

The Torino – which tips the scale at a whopping 4,300 pounds, with driver included – takes another win in Round 2 with a time of 15.91 seconds at 88.02 mph, about a half-second ahead of the Corvette’s 16.42 seconds at 83.68 mph. By the way, the Corvette weighs in at 3,242 pounds with driver.

The two drivers were having so much fun going ahead and making their day that they decided to run the third round anyway, even though the Torino already had taken the crown by winning the first two races. Completing the sweep, this time the classic Ford ran a 15.62 at 89.83 mph, ahead of the Corvette’s 16.33 at 83.89 mph.

Even if you don’t really care to see two old geezers battle it out on the strip, Cars & Zebras still manages to make it fun enough to watch anyway. As Clint might say, go ahead and make my day and watch the video now, punk!
