Corvettes for Sale: 0 Bids on this 1967 Corvette Offered at No Reserve

Man, how we long for the days when this 1967 red-on-red Corvette was presented to someone as a high school graduation gift back in 1967.

Now, some 56 years later, members of the same family are offering the car for sale on eBay, with a collection of vintage photos that show 23 payments of just $50 starting in July 1967, with a final balloon payment of $2,814.

With apologies to Bob Dylan, the times have definitely changed. This vintage two-top convertible is now being offered with an opening bid of $57,700, at no reserve, and the skeptics on Barn Finds where we spotted it are already howling about such a high price for what one termed “a non-running mess of a car.”

TITLE

Closer examination, however, reveals a car that might be worthy of a more intense in-person examination, especially if you live within striking distance of Malta, Illinois.

The most impressive thing about this Sting Ray might be its red interior that – in photos, at least – appears to remain in very nice condition, worthy perhaps of a survivor designation with its “original dash and gauges.”

TITLE

The same can’t be said for the outside. The car definitely needs a new paint job as the maroon recoat from 1978 has seen better days. The good thing is that it has never been driven in any winters and the birdcage is described as “rock solid,” the “no hit body” as “arrow straight,” the doors “close as if new,” and the frame is “solid.” It also includes a white ragtop and an original hardtop.

The big question mark is the presumed 327 engine, which does turn over now but the owner hasn’t had it running yet. With only 43,000 miles on the odometer, there should be plenty of life left, however.

TITLE

An assortment of new parts is included with the sale, including GM sidepipe exhausts, brakes, clear floormats, and a 427 big block hood said to be valued at $1,600.

No one asked us, but if this car were ours, we’d be inclined to spruce it up with a new paint job and get the engine running in an effort to stir more interest and increase the value. What would you do?

  1. Add another $75k…. you would have a real nice car…. however…. all you would have is a nice SMALL block daily driver….

  2. At that high of an opening bid, the engine should be running and the e-card drivable. They should start the bidding at $25k.

  3. People are more discriminating with their money in the time of Bidenomics. Too many choices in the market.

  4. If it was cleaned up and running then the price could be more, but after the original purchase the paint is needed and if done right very expensive to do

  5. Everything and I mean everything is more expensive these days. Just ask the potted plant in the WH. Hell tell ya. C’mon man!

  6. I have owned several of these 67, 427 cars, and they do bring in the big bucks, but hindsight you would be better off with this car as a daily driver, and yes a paint job is upper15000, good luck!!

  7. I paid $2500.00 for a 69 that sat for forty years.
Going to take five grand to put it back on the road. I will stick with it over the 67
