[PICS] Oops! Another Corvette Makes It Through Quality Control with the Wrong Equipment

Last week we had the follow up story about a Z06 buyer who received a Stingray Badge on the rear deck of his 2023 Corvette Z06. We remarked how the car passed through multiple quality control checks before being delivered to the customer. While that factory mix-up is a fairly rare occurrence, it sparked an email from another Z06 customer who says they received the wrong equipment on their order as well.

Muffy Bennett reached out to us about her husband Gary Bennett (formerly of Barrett-Jackson auctions) and his 2023 Corvette Z06 with the Z07 Performance Package. Muffy says the Z06 was one of the first 100 built and it was delivered in December 2022. The car was ordered with in Hypersonic Gray with Red interior and red seatbelts, but when it was delivered to them, it was wearing the blue seatbelts.

Muffy tells us the Order Form shows the Red seatbelts, but the Build Sheet says they are Blue.

After contacting GM about their Z06 order, they have been sent the Red seatbelts as a replacement. Muffy tells us that her husband is torn on whether or not to swap them out due to the uniqueness of having a factory error on their car.

We feel this is a different situation than the Stingray badge on the back of a Z06 as it appears the order may have been entered incorrectly, and since the build sheet showed Blue seatbelts, that’s what this Z06 received.

Muffy and her husband Gary will be seeing those blue seat belts every time they get in the car. If they like them, great! But if it’s something that starts to bug them after a while, we suggest going back to the Red seatbelts and bagging the Blue seatbelts for the next owner. We don’t really see this factory error adding any additional value to the car, but it does make for a fun story.

What are your thoughts on this seatbelt mix-up, Corvette Nation? Should the Bennett’s keep them Blue, or swap them out for the Red as they initially ordered?

  1. Surprised that is not one of those color combos you have to override or pay extra for, especially since the car and/or the interior is not blue. I’m guessing the person placing the order on the factory build sheet must be the culprit, but maybe the dealership messed up.

  2. Chazoo, the build sheet is automated from the entered order. So the dealership messed up, unfortunately.

If they’re having fun with it.. keep the blue!

  3. I saw on Rick Conti’s channel that the plant is expected to produce ~50K 2023 C8’s. At the pace they’re moving the line there’s bound to be a few missteps and it’s not unique to Corvette, as I’ve seen 911’s that had mis-colored interiors too. I’d say keep the blue belts as is, especially if they like them. Honestly, it’s not a bad look for this particular Corvette and probably a great conversation piece. 👍🏼🏁🚀

  4. I agree @michael e salay, Blue (seatbelts) Suck!

Those Blue seatbelts look awful against the Red Interior, I have Red interior in my C8 and doubt I could get in it everyday looking at those Blue seatbelts.

I had to pay for a Color Override to get the Red Interior with Accelerate Yellow Exterior, not adding the cost of the Accelerate Yellow, X-tra.

I get a lot of compliments on the color combination which I was concerned with in the beginning. C8s were not in production and I had no idea how that Yellow would look on the car. “Shot in the Dark” :))

  5. Do the calipers in Blue and call it a day….I want to know why you can’t pay an over ride and get a natural and black interior with red stitching. You see it on Ferraris. But Chevy will put in ANY color seat belt. I saw a Porsche 911 with two different seat types delivered that way.

  6. If it was my car I would want to install the red seat belts to make it correct. Those cars cost too much to not have all the correct parts on them.

  7. Every human activity has an error rate. Deviation rate is a better call. Every except second guessing . Second guessing is always right, even if it is left.

  8. I personally would not have accepted the blue seatbelts, they look awful. In October 2011 my wife and I were in the Bowley Green Assembly Plant experiencing the build of our 2012 Z06. Our Corvette is a 3LZ but not a Centennial Edition which were offered that model year. At one point when the car was nearly completely built we noticed a bit of a fuss being made as several line workers checked out the interior of our Corvette. It was brought to our attention that a miss-matched set of seats had been installed. One seat had was correct with the script Z06 stitched into the headrest while the other seat contained the special Centennial Edition logo. There was a lot of scurrying around and eventually another driver’s seat appeared and was installed in place of the errant one. I requested that I might also be allowed to keep the Centennial seat as a remembrance of our wonderful experience at the Bowling Green Plant (I thought that I might make a desk chair out of it) but was politely refused. Never the less it was an interesting experience witnessing a production blunder in such an amazing atmosphere.

  9. Nothing changes!! My parents order a 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne 3speed 283 V8 with dual exhaust (Father insisted on dual exhaust because of V-8) it was built end of model year . When it became time to replace exhaust it was discovered it had a 1960 exhaust on it! Note the 1959 through 1964 used the same frame!
