[ACCIDENT] 1962 Corvette Rolls Off the Back of An Auto Transporter

Over the weekend this shocking video of a 1962 Corvette that fell off the back of an auto transporter went viral and we really have no words to describe the sound of that car as it rolls off the ramp and hits the pavement.

The video appears to have originated on TikTok and was posted by teamspeeddemon on Facebook, but we also came across it on Instagram so it’s embedded below.

The commenters suggest that the lift should have had wheel chocks that pop up automatically, and you would like to think that a competent shipper would know to always check to make sure they are engaged. However, you can see the driver’s side rear wheel looks like it goes over a pretty decent-sized hump and the guy on the lift complains that “it went right over the f**king…” so perhaps the chocks were in place, but the car had too much momentum as it was rolling backwards. The other crazy thing that really gets me is how much flex there is on that lift as the full weight of the car hits it just before rolling off.

I guess the real question for the owner of the car is what is it going to take to make it right again? You have possible damage to the frame and suspension of the car, and it wouldn’t surprise us to find that rear end fiberglass and chrome bumpers to be heavily damaged as well. We guess that the owner will have to go through the shipper’s insurance company and he’s probably lucky that there is video showing the drop as it happens.

Update
Thanks to a reader who sent us to the original TikTok post. You can clearly see the rubber chocks being laid down by the driver, but the Corvette has the momentum to go right over them and over the edge:

@beach_pirate Who needs a Tesla?! American HP reigns! Though, suspension could use a tweak 😳#buildingskills #corvette #classiccars #cartransport #fail ♬ original sound – Florida_Pirate_Guy

  1. Why wasn’t their wheel chocks or raised stops at the end of the ramp?Thats pure incompetence and a beautiful car damaged for no reason.🤬🥵

  2. I wonder if we will get an update as to how much damage there was. It doesn’t look like to much at first, but the trunk lid popped open so it might even have a bent frame.

  3. Incompetent truck driver, no excuse for that to have happened. He should be pulling bottom dumps instead of hauling classic cars. Yeah, I’m an old trucker, would have had the winch line hooked up as a safety in case the chocks (which looked WAY too small) failed to stop/hold the car, sad.

  4. That’s hard to watch. It’s something I’d expect to see on that reality show Shipping Wars from one of those idiots.

  5. That was the second time that driver dropped that car off the lift. The first time he dropped it on a new porsche taycan. The car was being delivered to be repaired from the first time he let it drop from the top decks. Shaughnessy overland express is the company and the driver is still employed.

  6. You are correct, that is the second time the car was dropped. I know because the car belonged to a good friend of mine and he just sold it on bringatrailer.com
    I was there the morning this clown driver picked it up and he is an absolute joke. He struggled to drive the car in the trailer, slipping the clutch the whole time to keep it from rolling back off the deck. My friend owned this car for 44 years and it was a fully restored, matching numbers car. Go check out bringatrailer.com and you can see all the pictures and details of what was a meticulously maintained, show quality C1 Corvette.

  7. This actually the second time that this happened with the same car and same driver. The first time when it was being delivered to the owner and this time at a repair shop to possibly fix the damage from the first drop
