During today’s opening of the National Corvette Museum’s 28th Annual Anniversary Celebration, Corvette Assembly Plant Director Kai Spande gave us the news that we have been waiting too long to hear: Plant tours are resuming this year!

The Corvette Assembly Plant will be working with the National Corvette Museum for scheduling and leading the tours. Interested parties will be able to visit the National Corvette Museum’s website beginning on Tuesday, November 1st to book their tours. NCM members qualify for early-bird booking and can start planning their tours on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

Kai also mentioned that if you participated in an R8C Museum Delivery during the time that plant tours were closed, you’re going to get a free make-up tour as Kai said, “We owe you one!”

The assembly plant tours were suspended in July 2017 when the plant’s new paint shop was under constructed and other enhancements inside the plant were being made…and then the COVID pandemic delayed the tours further.

“We have been waiting for this day for what feels like an eternity,” said Kai Spande, Plant Director for the General Motors Bowling Green Assembly Plant and Board Chairman of the National Corvette Museum. “It’s a great point of pride for our workforce to be able to share what it takes to make America’s Sports Car. We cannot wait to start welcoming Corvette customers, enthusiasts, and friends back for tours of our plant.”

During the presentation, Kai was also asked about the Buyers Tours, which offered R8C participants the ability to walk the Corvette assembly line and watch as their Corvette is being built. There are still details being worked out on this we’ll bring it when it’s been finalized.

Kai also announced that the Build Your Own Engine program for the Z06’s LT6 will start up in the 2nd Quarter of 2023. He says that will be a bit different this time as those participants will stay at one location, and the parts to build the engine will be brought directly to them.

  1. That’s great news, so many have missed seeing and enjoying a marvelous experience. I was in the plant 4/25-4/28 2017 building my LT4 engine and watching my Z06 being assembled. I didn’t realize it closed so soon after I was there.

  2. Its about time, I got my R8C in late 2018 and couldn’t go see the car built or anything because of this.
