There are two schools of Corvette ownership: preservation and enjoyment. Often, owners can walk both paths simultaneously, driving and maintaining their little slice of the American sports car dream as it was intended by its makers, but other times, “enjoyment” means turning the canvas of a ‘Vette into something else entirely. Once in a while, these off-script antics become tube-bodied ‘Vette Kart projects, Batmobiles, or even… Ramp Trucks, but the traditional goal of excessive modification is more speed.
To that end, we’ve seen track ‘Vettes become more wing than actual car in search of ultimate downforce, and outrageous, number-chasing drag cars. Today’s example isn’t just the latter; it’s also one of the cheapest ways to get 1,000 pre-built HP that we’ve ever seen on the open market!
Kunes Ford of Delavan, Wisconsin – don’t let their Blue Oval affiliation fool you, they deal in a good number of Corvettes – is currently in possession of an absolute monster of a 2008 Corvette Z06, and they’re searching for its next owner. Now, if you look closely, you can tell right away that this Victory Red (one of 1,402 Zs so painted in ’08) Z06 isn’t exactly stock.
Maybe the motivator reaching through the hood or the meaty drag slicks gave it away, but 2008 Z06 VIN 148 has a laundry list of mods that’ll take multiple breaths to read through if you’re one of our many readers who recites articles as a form of dinner conversation. The full list of go-fast upgrades is as follows: built motor with custom heads, cam, springs, and retainers. Topping off the 7.0 is a Borg Warner S366 twin turbo kit, Holley Hi-Ram intake manifold with Tik air to water intercooler. Under the trick center-opening hood, you’ll also find a GM flex fuel kit, Turbowerx scavenge pump, triple 450 fuel pumps, and pump controller from Fore, Holley fuel rail, and upgraded fuel lines, 2200cc injectors, GFB G-Force boost controller, and more.
The engine bay wasn’t the only part of the car that went under the knife, either. The trunk has been fitted with an ice tank and a Davies Creig electric water pump, and at the corners, you’ll find Weld racing wheels, 18 inches in the front and 15 at the rear, covering Carlyle brakes. Inside, a new cueball-topped short throw shifter and a Monster triple disk clutch are tasked with transferring the considerable power between the boosted LS7 and the previously mentioned slicks.
Kunes’ Manager, Nico Bilotti, says the car is waiting on a tune, so final power numbers aren’t available yet, but it should easily make four-digit ponies, which is why the $45,999 list price is so jarring; this is a ton of car for not much coin! How is that even possible? For starters, the Z06 has traveled more than 72,000 miles in the 18 years since it left Bowling Green, which would be considered almost brand-new condition for most 2008 vehicles, but is rather high mileage for a ‘Vette.
Also, as so many cars that wind up as all-out builds, this one has an accident on its record. The Carfax says the original owner took delivery in Florida in June of 2007 and kept the car until 2019, with 58k miles after suffering minor damage to the front of the car in 2016. It only shows one more owner in the report, but it doesn’t appear that it was privately held at any point this decade, being checked into dealer inventory, auctioned, and traded from New Jersey to Maryland, to Virgina, and now to its current location in America’s Dairyland where it finally morphed into its current ‘roid-raging form that will hopefully entice a much more specialized buyer into pulling the trigger to save this brute out of its extended time as a Ronin, giving it a pair of new homes: the garage and the local drag strip.

Maybe the price is low because how asinine it looks.
What a waste of a good Corvette. Might as well hang a big stainless muffler under the bumper, add a tall wing, and put some purple lights in the fender wells. Don’t think you can see the little doggie with the bouncing head in the back window. Dingo balls may be in order.
