At this point in the C8 Corvette’s lifecycle, I’ve mostly given up when it comes to arguing how Additional Dealer Markups (ADMs) are ruining the new Corvette buying experience.
Chevy’s Owner Retention Policy only affects the car’s second owner while dealers are free to charge whatever they want. The process of buying a new Corvette model has been forever damaged as long as Chevrolet continues to reward dealers who SCREW their customers.
Fine, whatever. I simply don’t care anymore…Thankfully, there are dealers that continue to honor selling at MSRP, and they are the ones that should be rewarded with your repeat business.
But then I caught this post from the ZR1_M7 Instagram Page highlighting a post from Facebook where a dealer (or broker) is sharing an open ZR1X allocation:
Charging a quarter million over MSRP for the new 2026 Corvette ZR1X is simply insane. That puts the price at $519,000 and don’t forget tax, title, and tag. Plus PPF, Radiator Grill Guards, Rock Guards, car covers and anything else a new Corvette owner buys.
C’mon dealers. Do better. At the end of the day, It’s still a Corvette!?!

As long as boomer is willing to pay it, the behavior will continue.
Fact.

Sorry Boba Fett, it’s not boomers that are paying over sticker, most of us that are able to afford a new Corvette, probably had to work a good many years to get to this point, me included and can’t see throwing away a chunk of that hard earned money away. I grew up with nothing 1 of 7 kids to a coal miner, no college just a good hard work ethic installed in me, when the C8 came out, I knew I wanted one, badly but would not pay over sticker for one, so my goal was to wait to 2026 and then pull the plug, well I special ordered my car the beginning of January at a sticker of $100,650, did my shopping around had a local dealer give me just about 8% off of sticker and the car is being built on Feb 26th, that’s how we the “Boomers” as your childish mind refers us, operate. Oh forgot, I am paying cash for the car too.
Phil B. – Good for you – I finally bought my first Vette – a 2007 model, nothing fancy – 3 years ago for $20,000. Needed some work – put another $3000 into it as it had been damaged and needed new computers, airbag, etc. Like new now and only has 47k miles. Want to get a C8 but wife thinks it’s too much money. Like you, I’ve worked hard to get where I’m at. Grew up with nothing and saved as much as I could for retirement.
Congratulations on your patience that paid off with that Stingray order! I also don’t pay dealer bribes. MSRP only. When the Z06 came out in 2023 I got on a list to order one. With Biden’s gang in charge, my thought was that Z06 might be one of the last internal combustion engine powered high performance cars. However after administrations changed, the ZR1 came out of development, and was announced as a REAL product. So with 400 more hp, 400 more ft lbs of torque and nearly identical fuel consumption/range between fill-ups, I decided to skip Z06 and wait to order a ZR1. My ZR1 order status is currently 3000. Perhaps if a ZR1X becomes available to me at MSRP, I will trade in the ZR1. But if they decide to make ZR1X limited production, I will still have a nice “bird in hand”. Patience pays off.
This is why the E-Ray is the gem of the lineup. AWD corvette you can afford. ZR1X, as much as I’d love to have one–is in such rarefied air, that even at MSRP, you can buy 2x E-Ray’s for the price. If you can even get the opportunity to buy one.
Sure, the ZR1X is the alpha of sports cars. Maybe that’s worth it to be the alpha. I am not wanting to be the alpha. I’m not sure it’s worth 2x the cost. E-Ray is a fantastic value.
Will be below MSRP in 6 months it a Chevy 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
