We have some big news for the Corvette Nation to end the week! This is for those new Corvette buyers who want the full customer experience when purchasing a new Corvette Z06, ZR1, or ZR1X.

Chevrolet is relaunching its Build Your Own Engine Experience that allows buyers to work alongside with GM’s master engine builders in the Corvette Assembly Plant’s Performance Build Center. Buyers will be able to build their own LT6 or LT7 engines and once completed, that engine will then be installed in the buyer’s new Corvette as it goes down the assembly line.

Those that participate in the Engine Build Experience receive a custom engine plaque, photos from the day, and an exclusive gift that has yet to be revealed.

GM posted the Engine Build Experience on its Corvette Experience page on Chevrolet.com:

Corvette Custom Engine Build

A coveted opportunity returns. Assemble your own LT6 or LT7 engine alongside a Performance Build Center master technician at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant.* Available on Corvette Z06, ZR1 and ZR1X models, this experience includes a custom engine plaque, an exclusive gift and a professional photo keepsake. Contact your dealer to add RPO Code: PBC to your Corvette order. Availability is limited.

The Engine Build Experience will return in the Spring of 2026. Currently there is no pricing available for the PBC option. Previously, GM charged $5,000 to participate in the program.

We first heard about this through a post on Linked-In from Corvette Assembly Plant Director Ray Theriault. You can read his post below:

What does all of that mean??? It means that the moment we’ve all been waiting for is here. Yes, the Corvette Engine Build Experience is back, right here in Bowling Green Assembly’s Performance Build Center!

We know that when you help build the heart, every rev feels personal. So roll up your sleeves and come get your hands (actually gloves) dirty as you work alongside our master builders to put together the core of our beloved Corvette: its engine.

Moments from this program have become meaningful milestones for our team. What started as a memorable experience has grown into something larger, something that has bonded people together in a nearly intangible way. From the early days in Wixom, Michigan, to welcoming owners during the C7 era, these shared memories are still talked about on the floor today. That sense of connection and pride is exactly what we’re committed to continuing.

So, come see us this Spring! From torque specs to goosebumps, welcome back to the build room. We can’t wait to remind you of exactly what makes us world-class.

GM attempted to bring back the Engine Build Program for the LT6/Z06 in 2023 just after the official launch of the Z06. But due to continuing complications in production due to supply chain issues as well as the complexity of the 5-5-liter V8, the C8 engine build program was put on an indefinite hold.

Say tuned as we will bring more information including the price of the RPO PBC once its available.

  1. Sounds about right. $5000 to build the engine. $1500 for museum delivery. On a Z06 where the LT6 upgrade is already ~ $40,000.

50 grand for a Z06 you intend to be buried in might be ok. For the average Z06 owner, I can’t see this being a solid buy.

Now for a ZR1 (and especially ZR1X), sure. Again, assuming it isn’t going to be flipped in short order.

  2. Another DUMB plan to rip folks with more $$$ than sense off. Get real GM.
A sucker is born every day. That being said, to each his or her own.

  3. I built the LT4 engine for my 2017 Z06, cost was $5K and another $2.5K to walk with my car as it was assembled. I was in Bowling Green Assembly and the Performance Build Center for 4 days and the engine build day was 9 1/2 hours. I had a personal photographer for every minute and I received a DVD with 800 photos and a leather bound book documenting the event and authenticating the build and my VIN, it signed by the Corvette General Manager and the Corvevette Museum President. Watch the attached YouTube put together with about 150 photos. This experience is very unique and according to people I’ve shown the book and the car who at first were skeptical soon said “ohh, wow this is really worth it” https://youtu.be/JB3dlu6RRY4?si=vH6nUgJ9KTdlpChd
