With winter coming up, this 1970 Corvette Stingray convertible could be the perfect project car for an obliging enthusiast.
The car could be left as-is and still garner lots of attention on the road, with a repaint in Marlboro Maroon still in “nice driver quality” condition, according to the second owner.
He’s put this vintage chrome-bumper C3 on the market through eBay out of Chesapeake, Virginia, where six bids have been placed to a high of $15,600 that is still below reserve, with activity slated to end on Oct. 30.
The original numbers-matching L48 350/300 horsepower V8 engine that produced 380 lb-ft of torque is still under the hood. Mated to an aluminum radiator, an oversized exhaust hooked to the stock manifold, and a four-speed manual transmission, the engine is said to run “strong with no leaks.”
The list of projects isn’t overwhelming, with the seller pointing out that the often-troublesome vacuum system “needs attention,” and the air conditioning needs to be switched over to 134 and charged. Inside, the black vinyl interior looks serviceable, though it needs a radio bezel and shifter bezel mount repair, he says.
The black soft top was added recently and looks fine, other than the strip on the body panel underneath it, and the car really looks great with its optional body-color hardtop in place, in our opinion.
The seller says the repaint was “initially an excellent” one but now the ravages of time have led to nicks and fiberglass issues.
Other features include a limited-slip differential, 15-inch Rally wheels, AM/FM radio, and power steering.
