WhistlinDiesel’s latest video is sure to get the blood boiling for some old-school Corvette enthusiasts.

The popular YouTuber, who has nearly 11 million subscribers, takes on a mid-engine 2023 Z06 in what he calls the “C8 Corvette Durability Test #1.”

While it’s safe to say this Corvette won’t be collecting trophies at a future concours event, it probably deserves an award just for surviving everything WhistlinDiesel throws at it.

And he throws plenty at it.

The abuse begins almost immediately, with the Corvette encountering a gate, construction barricades, hoses and other obstacles before WhistlinDiesel jokingly compares the C8 to a Chevrolet Silverado. From there, he races the two Chevys and puts the Corvette on a dynamometer.

But that’s just the warmup.

With a rainstorm approaching, WhistlinDiesel drives the car with the top off, then takes things a step further by sending the open Corvette through an automatic car wash. Somehow, despite water pouring into the cabin — even leaving the key sitting in standing water — the electronics apparently continue working.

Later, the C8 is dangled in the air at a 90-degree angle by construction equipment “to hang it out to dry” – attempting to scale the vertical car – before starting what WhistlinDiesel calls the “manhandling test.”

That’s where things really get painful for Corvette fans.

He starts pulling and twisting exterior and interior pieces with his bare hands, then repeatedly slams the driver’s door as hard as possible. Remarkably, the door survives 30 hard slams before the testing becomes even more extreme.

The hood doesn’t fare nearly as well, eventually being ripped from its hinges.

Still not satisfied, WhistlinDiesel hooks a horse trailer to the back of the Corvette and attempts to tow it. That test eventually has to be stopped after the trailer hitch begins failing. He says there is plenty more abuse planned for the car but admits he needs to get at least two videos out of the $100,000 Corvette to pay for it.

I watched the video last night with my teenage son and told him it would surely rile up Boomer Corvette enthusiasts like me.

But this morning, while shaving, my mind wandered back nearly half a century to Smokey and the Bandit.

How many black-and-gold Trans Ams were sacrificed in the name of entertaining audiences back then?

So maybe WhistlinDiesel isn’t doing anything all that new. Bashing up perfectly good cars has been attracting viewers for decades. The platform has simply changed from the movie theater to YouTube.

And attracting viewers is something WhistlinDiesel certainly knows how to do. According to the information accompanying the video, it drew 1.6 million views in its first 12 hours.

Whether watching a C8 Corvette being tortured makes you laugh or makes you want to look away, one thing is certain:

This battered Corvette is a whole lot tougher than WhistlinDiesel expected.
