Man oh man, do I love this 1964 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe that is being offered on eBay right now. Offered in Tuxedo Black with a Silver interior, it’s one of the rarest color combinations in the C2 era due to Black being at the bottom of the color charts back in the day.
As many readers may know, my 1966 Corvette Convertible is also a Tuxedo Black/Silver interior car and it’s such a different look to the traditional Black, Red, or Tan interiors. I hardly ever see this combination at shows, and I know of just one other 1964 Coupe with the Black/Silver combo in the wild which is owned by our “Carlisle” buddy Bill Totzke.
This 1964 Coupe is not a perfect car, and that is where the buyer really has some great options. Currently, it has a non-original 350 V8 but it’s dressed with Corvette-script valve covers while still retaining the chrome electrical shielding over the distributor cap. So visually, it appears to be correct to the casual observer.
That non-original V8 is also coupled to a turbo hydramatic 350 automatic transmission and a Posi rear differential, and the mileage is listed at 69,573. No VIN was provided, but one of the photos shows the trim tag that does appear to be original to the car.
Other options include power steering, AM/FM radio, back-up lights, and white line radial tires. The ’64s hood was replaced with a small block hood from the 1965-66 model years and the paint is showing its age. It does have an undercoating applied to the chassis, but the seller says the birdcage and frame are good.
The Sting Ray is being offered with a Buy it Now on eBay Motors for $57,000 and the seller is accepting offers. The sale continues over the next five days and ends on Monday at 6:10 PM ET.
So here are some options for those interested:
The buyer could keep it As-Is because this Sting Ray represents itself very well as a vintage mid-year Corvette despite the non-original motor. Just clean it up a bit and keep driving (and smiling).
You could also restomod it by dropping in a modern engine like a 383 Stroker or an LS3 crate motor and your choice of an auto or manual transmission for the car. However, the 1964 Corvettes were the last model year for drum brakes, so with any increase in power, you’ll want to swap those out for some decent stainless-steel disc brakes.
You’ll be a winner in this car no matter which direction you go! The Corvette is located in Harrison, Ohio and the seller says it’s a “great cruising car, runs and drives great,” and he also adds that “inspections are encouraged, sold as is with no warranties and deposits are non-refundable.”
I always thought that it would be cool to open up the garage and inside are two matching midyears – a Coupe and Convertible wearing the same colors. Alas, I can’t swing this deal today, but perhaps you can be the one to give this awesome Black/Silver 1964 Corvette Coupe a new home.

Seeing a lot of junk on the various auction sites that are overpriced and seem to have issues along with concealment of problems. Sign of the times. Let the buyer beware.
