This looks to be a pretty cool driving experience as an owner of a new Mustang GTD calls up some friends who own 2025 ZR1s to go to and do some driving together. The fact that this drive takes place in and around the Tail of the Dragon makes it even more epic, so give it a watch as you will be happy you did so.
The video was posted by the Mustang GTD owner named Vinney who goes by VINGIGGS on YouTube. He starts off talking about how he just got the Mustang and has already put over 1400 miles on it this week alone. The idea behind today’s drive is not only to experience the car on the iconic Tail of the Dragon, but also to let others see what it’s all about as well.
Joining Vinny is Steve with a Purple 2025 ZR1 and we also see the camo-wrapped ZR1 from Atlanta Custom Wraps that was recently featured driving the Tail of the Dragon as well. We’ll see more of that car in the Part II video that has already been promised.
This video isn’t about proclaiming one car a winner and one the loser, it’s more about exploring the strengths of each car and how they are different. After a shakedown run, Steve takes the wheel of the Mustang and heads out on the road. Starting off in Comfort Mode, the car is very comfortable to drive with Steve asking if this is a grocery getter or a hand built racer. The car is then placed into Sport Mode which Steve offers comparisons to the Sport mode in the ZR1.
Now it’s time for Vinny to experience the ZR1 and he is very impressed with the sound of the twin-turbo LT7 and just how different the car is from the Mustang. Vinny makes the comment that while the GTD is a purpose-built race car for the street, the ZR1 feels “more racecar” based on the visceral driving experience.
Some of the comments about the differences between the two cars is that the Mustang drives and sounds like a traditional American muscle car while the Corvette ZR1 is more of refined exotic. The Mustang is wider and does offer more storage than the ZR1 while the ZR1 seems to put more of a focus on the overall driving experience.
This was a fun video to watch! We liked how both drivers talked about how great it is that both Ford and Chevrolet are giving their customers these kinds of cars, and it’s the customers who are the real winners.

The thing is, the ferd turd craptang is not now, never has been & never will be a sports car. It is a muscle car, a pony car. The Chevrolet Corvette is now, always has been & always will be a true sports car. In the case of the C8 ZR1, it is a true world class performance super car. Remember, the C8 ZR1 smashed the gtd’s record @ the Nurburgring & would have really smashed it had Chevy used professional race car drivers instead of engineer drivers, even tho they were pretty good. I am sick of people saying the craptang is a sports car, IT IS NOT.
ferd turd craptang gtd costs $328,000. A C8 Chevy Corvette ZR1 3LZ (highest trim level) costs $186,000. ferd turd motor co. is insane for asking for that much for their muscle car. The C8 ZR 1 is much quicker 0-60, has a much higher top end speed, & waaaaay better cornering, handling & braking. It is superior in every way.
Camo? Ugh!!
Good job Dave. That pretty much covers it!
The Mustang’s main rival has always been the Camaro. The Corvette didn’t have an American rival until the Viper and then Ford GT. The Vette’s overseas rival was and is the Porsche 911.
Somebody needs to close the hood on the GTD. Oops, that’s ugly styling/aerodynamics…
One can find lots of magazine articles comparing Corvette (absent Mustangs) to foreign exotic cars. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a magazine article comparing Mustangs (absent Corvette) to foreign exotic cars.
Q: Why is that? A: Different market segments. A Mustang is not an exotic car. A Corvette is not a muscle car.
With the Camaro and Challenger gone, Mustang now has it’s own market segment. And due to it’s performance and more than competitive price against the exotics, the Corvette has it’s own market segment. There’s no reason to compare a Corvette to a Mustang. Otherwise, might as well add in pickup trucks.
