If you’re going to hoard something, why not make it something fun – like, say, a 1963 Corvette split window coupe?
That’s what a mysterious collector has been doing over the past few years, according to a story on CarBuzz.
Known only by his username “DDSEOE” on Bring a Trailer, this avid lover of ’63 Corvette SWCs loves them so much he has already spent $6.69 million buying 33 such cars on the online auction site – an average of roughly $202,000 per ‘Vette.
What’s interesting about this bidder is that he apparently has no interest in flipping any of the cars, just adding them to an ever-growing collection. Unless you happen to be a close personal friend of DDSEOE, it’s likely you may never know his or her identity as he has not sold nor shipped any of his purchases overseas.
While the collector seems to favor ’63 Corvettes, he has actually purchased a total of 125 cars on BaT, including a few other C1s, C2s, C4s, and C7s and at least one 1959 pink Cadillac. He’s also bought 12 C4 ZR-1s, and his most expensive Corvette was a ’63 SWC for which he paid $345,000 – $100k more than Hagerty’s concours value.
DDSEOE first became noticed on Bring a Trailer after someone spotted his sixth split window purchase back in 2023.
His latest conquest was a ’63 in Saddle Tan with an L75 327/300 horsepower engine and a four-speed manual transmission, and he apparently was one of the bidders on the ex-James Garner/AIR 1968 L88 convertible race car that failed to meet the reserve when the bidding ended June 20 at $755,000.
It wasn’t the first failure for DDSEOE, though. In August 2023, he won an auction for a 1962 Corvette for $69,000, but the seller reneged on the sale and was permanently banned from BaT.
