Corvettes for Sale: 1963 Corvette Split Window Project Car on eBay Motors

The owner of this 1963 Corvette split window coupe says it’s been stored in Northern California for the past 50 years, perhaps to rest up from its racing days in the early 1970s.

Now he’s trying to sell this vintage Sting Ray – complete with rusty roll cage – on eBay, where the current offer has hit $28,027 with 31 bids placed so far. The auction comes to a close in eight days.

One look at the photos shows this Corvette will obviously need a lot of work, but the body appears to be in decent shape, other than a whopsided front fender wheel well on the driver’s side. Based on the sanding that’s already happened, it looks like fender flares may have been removed, and someone didn’t quite get the angle on the wheel well right above the tire as he did the repair.

The interior has some of the pieces still there, including the dash and the gauges in front of the driver, but the center stack is completely bare and the glove compartment is gone, along with the seats, door panels, and carpet.

Of course, an optimist would just say this gives a new owner the opportunity to take this Corvette in any direction they choose, including as a wild resto-mod or back to stock.

Further reason to take the former approach lies under the hood.

Mechanically, the car has not been started or driven in decades and does not run or drive, according to the listing. The seller believes the engine block surface where the serial number was has been ground off, perhaps to make room for a non-stock generator, but he says all other block numbers indicate a 1963 Corvette 327 V8.

Since the car has lost its originality already, we’d be tempted to install a more modern engine and an upgraded interior to create a crazy resto-mod. How about you?

  1. Who writes these articles? Have you ever seen a C2 Corvette? He says, “It looks like Fender Flares may have been removed.” Sorry, they’re still there. They have not been removed.
Whoever buys this junkyard heap will be so sorry. The rusted birdcage is a nonstarter on a perfect C2, let alone one that needs everything. Even the trans is a 3-speed. Someone has too much money that they just want to flush down the toilet.

  2. That vin tag looks suspicious. I see ring wear around where the rivets should be. There’s a date C225 in the pic below. Probably March 22, 1965. This looks like a hack job with the story of it being a barn find that was drag raced in the 70s to cover up what it really is…

  3. A 63′ split window coupe is highly desirable with restoration examples in stock form bringing $125k to $175k and restomod examples pulling $200-$300k. Since this one needs a new frame and drive train I would go in the restomod direction since a stock restoration would be in the $150k-$200k range and the buyer would immediately be “upside down”.
