Corvettes for Sale: Just Add Paint to this 1963 Split Window Offered on Facebook

This 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Split Window Coupe with just 35,000 miles on the odometer has been in storage for more than 30 years.

Now it’s nearly ready to see daylight again.

The only ingredient said to be missing from this classic C2 is a new paint job, as the car sits in primer right now, ready for a new coat of black if the new owner wants to keep it original.

This Sting Ray is being offered for $98,500 on Facebook Marketplace out of Manchester, Maryland, and the owner says he recommends interested parties “come look at it on my lift and drive it.”

The original drivetrain is gone, replaced by a 327 engine from a ’66 Corvette that “runs good” with its four-speed manual transmission. Added recently were a new aluminum radiator, brakes and master cylinder, gas tank, and mufflers.

Photos from the listing seem to agree with the seller’s assertion that his car has a “really nice original interior” in red, and he also rates the body and frame to be in the same kind of condition. He even has documentation from the previous owner all the way back to 1971 when he bought it.

The car is in primer right now, and he’s considering selling it before the new paint is applied, which is scheduled for after the first of the upcoming new year.

Some folks are upset that they weren’t able to see the condition of the body before the primer was applied, but others believe they know the seller and trust him as a car expert who can provide an accurate assessment of the car. We’d tend to agree with the latter since the photos in the listing show several C2 Corvettes in his garage, along with a first-gen Camaro.

So, would you like Santa to stuff this Sting Ray down your chimney tonight?

  1. The car is really cruel. I graduated 1963. I always wanted to 63 Corvette who owns it and how much do they want for it Anthony Hansen 239-428-7640 Naples Florida

  2. Someone forgot to mention that to paint it, the whole car has come apart. Also it needs most than paint; the body needs to be removed from the frame along with new interior, along with mechanical overhauls So, after spending $180,000 or more on the only needs paint job. But with the wrong engine this guy is really fishing. Why was the car put back together in primer? Nothing makes sense here.

  3. Too much work for too much money. The only thing it has going for it is the split window and a decent original interior. The engine bay is trash which tells me the car was not properly stored for a long time. I would not even pay half of the asking price. I’m sure the underside of the car is in the same condition. This guy is dreaming on the asking price.

  4. To Re-do a 1963 Corvette correctly…you must start on the ground, and go through the correct steps upward….this gentleman has not done that. He has skipped to primer, sidestepped the disassemble reassemble part. It may not budge until he drops to 70k …or so. Correct matching #s not being there is an enormous $$ hit also. This car with matching numbers and correct paint and finish could hit 500k.

  5. Way too much for a non original engine vette. The engine bay looks horrible, more like a 150,000 mile car. Then add the cost of a new, high quality paint job.
