[VIDEO] Florida Highway Trooper Sneaks Up on a Pair of Unaware C6 Corvette Street Racers

If you hate it when cops hide behind a tree or a building to catch unsuspecting speeders, you’re going to despite this video recently posted on Instagram.

From a trooper’s dashcam, we watch as he weaves his way in and out of traffic, silently making his way forward, siren and lights off, stealthily moving in on his prey – a C6 Corvette to the left, a C6 Z06 in the center lane, and finally a Mustang on the right to form a horizontal convoy across three lanes of the road.

Maybe the Ford driver was a little more observant and realized there was suddenly a cop behind him because he maintains his same speed. No such luck for the two Corvette drivers, who in short order gleefully stomp their accelerators in an apparent drag race on the freeway.

Instantly, you’ll see the blue lights and siren flipped on, and both cars quickly apply the brakes, with the lighter-colored Z06 pulling over to the emergency lane, ready to take his big dose of “castor oil.” Looks like the other Corvette manages to elude capture right then, though it’s likely his tag number was recorded by the trooper for a later dose of that same medicine to be poured down the hatch.

Another driver also captured the incident on their dashcam, so we get to see the whole thing from a different perspective as someone in that car says, “There’s a cop – oh, snap!” as the blue lights and siren emerge ahead.

One person commented on Instagram that such racing is a result of the government taxing legal drag strips into bankruptcy, forcing drivers to having to resort to using a desolate area, with lookouts and drones to patrol the area for cops.

We understand that enthusiasts want to exercise the big muscle under their hoods, but when will they ever learn how dangerous such antics are when other innocent drivers are also on the road? Take your high-speed driving to the track where it belongs, we would argue.

  1. If they can afford, and want to exercise, “the big muscle under their hoods”, then they can also afford to regularly patronize a local drag strip, and by doing so help keep it in business.

  2. So instead of more rigorous driver’s-ed and unlimited speeds on an Autobahn, we force bigger and wider highways into artificially low speed-limits–so we can extort the population for money.

Makes sense. In a War-on-Drugs kind of way.

I don’t want people racing on city streets. I do have to wonder why empty inner-city beltways at 2-3 AM are policed like this. I’d rather the PD hold regularly scheduled invitationals so people can let their freak flag fly. If the PD can have open range day for the public one day a month–it seems like open highway night shouldn’t be much different.

  3. Take it to the track?? Really, like that’s even remotely possible for most any of us. Why does Detroit build these cars, to do just that race or just have fun. Yes you do have to use your brain, but why does it even matter especially if the road is bare or away from the general population. Have you seen a Dodge commercial lately?? The road was clear ahead of them, I say floor it. I have always thought if people could use the local airport runway that’s out of the way, to settle who is fast and who is not. They can’t catch us all. And it’s damn fun. You would think the cops would have better things to do, like chase real criminals.

  4. IPD: There’s a more likely chance that their are impaired drivers on the roads at that time, that’s why they are out there patrolling, which may be the reason why the 1 Vette took off, they may get him the next day, but if he was impaired, that fine is better than a DUI.

  5. I’m more concerned about those little rice burners with the big wing, stainless muffler hanging under the bumper, and purple lights in the wheel wells weaving through traffic at a high rate of speed.

  6. Many dragstrips have disappeared because the value of land has gone way up. Palm Beach International Raceway was sold to plow it under and make way for new Costco or Amazon (I forget which) warehouses. When a dragstrip owner is offered $50M, the business decision is obvious. You can’t make that much money at a dragstrip gate – especially with the cost of overhead and insurance. Warehouses and condos are grabbing land. Now it’s a 2 hour drive to get to the closest dragstrip. And if you break something while there… no fun. Running the car to it’s limit on the street is just not smart at all. About the only thing you can do is go through a gear or two and hit the brakes. That’s the report/status for 2024…
