The most popular fuel-injected engine for the 1957 Corvette was the 283/283 horsepower V8 that added $484.20 to the base price of $3,176.32.
This ’57 fuelie currently for sale on Craigslist out of the Louisville, Kentucky area is outfitted with this engine, one of 713 so equipped. In all, Chevy sold 1,040 ‘Vettes with fuel injection as it made its debut on the scene that year.
If you’re looking for a Corvette that just screams the ’50s, it could easily be this one that really pops with its rare Cascade Green paint that appeared on only 550 of the 6,338 cars built at the St. Louis factory in 1957.
This one also is enhanced by the optional two-tone paint combo featuring beige coves, along with a matching beige interior. Also included are a matching Cascade Green hardtop (chosen by 4,055 customers for an extra $215.20) and what looks in listing photos to be a beige soft top.
The car’s fuel-injected engine is described as being “period correct,” so it possibly could be the original powerplant in this car … or might not be. Since GM only started adding the VIN derivative to engines starting in 1960, the authenticity of this ’57 can’t be confirmed by numbers alone. In addition, the seller claims that the “correct” fuel injection unit casting #7014800 sits atop the engine.
We do know for sure that this car has some other nice features, including a four-speed manual transmission, one of just 664 sold that year as most were outfitted with either three-speed manuals (4,282) or Powerglide automatics (1,393). Adding to the rarity of this Corvette are a couple of other low-production options like power windows (379) and Wonderbar AM radio (3,635).
The asking price on this ’57 beauty that appears to lacking nothing is $81,000, and the seller points out that his car is an “extremely rare Corvette that is fun to drive.”

This 1957 Corvette in Cascade Green exterior and Shoreline Beige interior and coves IS the most beautiful of all First Generation of our beloved Corvettes that Chevrolet and Zora Arkus Duntov had the great pleasure of designing and building.
So, this Fuelly engine makes it the best of all 1st Generation Corvettes in performance and classic Corvette styling. Please somebody buy this ’57 and show it to the World.
Thanks for listening!
I have an early 1954 Vette. Love it. No key locks. No windows to crank. (They were in the trunk) As u know, they started shipping around the Fall of 53. Didn’t sell. Started giving them away to famous people like John Wayne. Then, the NYC big New Cars show in January took off sales. I also have an original 57 Fuelie. The FI was rather mechanical, dependent on the little ball going up and down for gas to the cylinders. Short stops & starts, causing explosions, blowing up the engine & car front. Engineering changes to the engine were needed. Cost me $5k. A lot of money back then. Now runs fine. There were 3 or 4 engineering changes in the early ’57 Furlies. It would be good to know if U R buying.
A rarity optioned as it is, and very cool, a beauty, too!
