Our friends at C&S Corvettes in Sarasota, Florida are back with a new video and in this episode, your Corvette friend Lyle is breaking down the future investment possibilities with the C6 Corvette ZR1 while also taking a look at its legendary performance to dollar ratio.

While the C6 era was fraught with issues regarding GM’s bankruptcy and questions about Corvette’s continued survival, the C6 ZR1 was a bright spot in 2009 after engineers answered a question from GM president and North Carolina alumnus Rick Wagoner, who asked what kind of performance could be obtained for a $100,000 priced Corvette. The “Blue Devil” 2009 Corvette ZR1 was the answer, powered by the first production supercharged LS9 V8 which made 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft of torque, and famously propelled the car past 200 mph.

These cars were performance marvels at the time, featuring an aluminum frame, carbon fiber hood and body panels, Brembo carbon ceramic brakes that could stop the car within 98 feet from 60-mph to zero, and it had it very own tuned Magnetic Ride Control system. All ZR1s were only available with the 6-speed manual transmission.

Chevy only made 4,684 Corvette ZR1s between 2009 and 2013 which is a great quantity for both drivers and collectors to each have a shot at owning one of these high-performance sports cars. But these cars have already started appreciating, as Lyle notes that in 2016-2017, you could buy a driver-quality car for $50K and now today these cars are upwards of $80,000 in that same condition.

The Hagerty Valuation Guide offers four levels of condition vs prices for the C6 ZR1 and Lyle shares them in the video. Prices these days have the Number 1 Concours condition ZR1 priced at $123,000 while a Number 2 ZR1 in Excellent condition is priced at $86,000. The Number 3 Good condition is $69,000 and the final Number 4 Fair condition is $59,000.

“Here’s my take on it. There aren’t many Corvettes after the year 2000 that you could legitimately call a modern classic, something that you can bank money on, is going to be a strong holder of value, probably actually appreciating over the coming 10 years. But the C6 ZR1 is definitely one of those cars,” says Lyle.

Lyle has more to say about the ZR1 including some cross-shopping considerations. You can watch the entire video here:
