[VIDEO] Mecum Compares the 1953 Corvette to a 2020 Corvette Stingray 3LT

One of the reasons to go to a Mecum Auction is the sheer number of cars you will see. For Corvette enthusiasts, it’s a great way to check out all eight generations of Corvettes under one roof. So whether you love the early cars, those from the middle years, or the modern-day sports cars, Mecum will always have some of your favorite Corvettes looking for new homes.

Mecum just recently wrapped up their early March sale in Glendale, Arizona with Corvettes being well represented at the show. These two Corvettes you are about to see formerly resided in the Utah Corvettes collection, and both were sold at No Reserve at the auction. Within the span of nearly 70 years, you can see how much automotive technology has changed over the years for just one specific model.

1953 Corvette VIN 129

The 1953 Corvette is serial number 129 and it looks outstanding in its Polo White with Sportsman Red livery. The car still has its original 235/150-hp Blue Flame Six engine and the two-speed Powerglide transmission with a slightly worn-looking shifter handle that looks as though it’s seen some miles, and we say that in a good way. Speaking of which, just 24,765 miles are showing on the odometer. We think whoever bought this first-year Corvette will be extremely happy with it, and the price of $176,000 isn’t an astronomical number that would break the bank. Well-bought!

The 2020 Corvette Coupe is also an early build during the first year of the C8, wearing VIN 104. It’s optioned with a 3LT trim package and has the Z51 Performance Package, Magnetic Ride Control, Front Lift, Carbon Fiber interior trim, and the 19/20 inch Carbon Flash painted aluminum wheels with machined edge. There are just 2,259 miles on the Stingray, and it sold for $84,700.
