When the 2024 E-Ray debuted, it wrote a new chapter in Corvette’s rich history. Not only had Corvette converted to midengined, but it was also now all-wheel drive and featured an electric motor powering the front wheels.
Likewise, the aftermarket and custom side of the hobby has kept pace. Not only do we see spectacular restomods with thumping LS motors, we’re also starting to see those customs show up with electrified drivetrains as well. The car hobby now has two roads to follow.
That leads us to YouTube and e-Grandpa with his electric 2008 Corvette convertible. In this 7-part series, he walks us through the details of his creative build.
The car began life as a Crystal Red convertible with the Titanium interior. Other than his signature chrome lightning bolt emblems, the C6 still retains nearly all its factory good looks. Look a little deeper and inside you’ll find the gear selector, main on/off switch, plus a small computer which monitors all the vital signs.
A Tesla 503hp electric motor with 469 lb-ft of torque has replaced the old LS motor. It’s powered by 6,912 Tesla battery cells that are hidden neatly in the engine compartment, the transmission tunnel, and in the trunk. Overall weight checks in about 590lbs more than the stock C6 and is about 860lbs less than the donor Tesla. e-Grandpa estimates 0-60mph in under 5 seconds and an estimated range of 200-300 miles.
We’ll stop here and let the talented builder give you the rest of the details on this elaborate build. Here’s a look at each of the 7 chapters in this great story. When you’re done, check out his other electric projects including a snowmobile and an ATV.

Does it go whirrrrr or WHIRRRRR while going 0 to 60 in 5?
What a waste, very unimpressive and boring under the hood. I would be embarrassed, of course I would never do something like this to such a nice V8 powered Vette. Why can’t you people find some POS Toyota or Lexus to screw up. And no V8 sound, ya bullshit!!
Damn it finally had to happen. The engine compartment looks horrible with the battery box or whatever that thing is in place of the LS engine. I only watched about one minute of Grandpa and his boring video and had to get out of it.
Personally I wouldn’t have an electric car if you gave it to me, but you have to realize how smart this guy is. There’s not one person in a thousand that could do this conversion.
I had a 2010 convertible loaded, same colors and stickered at 73K new.
With 436HP it would go 0 to 60 well UNDER 5 seconds.
So, to me this guy spent 30 or 40 K or more, to destroy the value of a nice C-6, and now nobody would pay good money for a ruined Corvette – – so I hope he is happy.
And my daily driver now is as Lexus Hybrid and it’s the best car I ever owned – – by a mile!
Will it self ignite in your garage like Teslas do?
“SHOCKING”
Congrats to this guy for a successful conversion. Everyone deserves to have the vehicle of their choice. Readers don’t know what the car was previous to the swap, but this guy had the challenge and courage to change it.
What David and Ronnie said.
It’s the owner’s car, his labor, his ingenuity, his money. Drive your ICE car of you must but let others live with their choices. And good grief, you don’t have to like a well executed project to appreciate it!
