Corvettes for Sale: 1970 Corvette LT1 Convertible Originally Sold Through the Legendary Yenko Chevrolet

The legendary Yenko Chevrolet dealership in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania sold this 1970 Corvette LT1 convertible to its first owner, and now 53 years later, it’s being offered for sale just a few miles down the road out of the Eighty-Four, Pennsylvania area!

Unfortunately, the craigslist ad doesn’t tell how much this Classic White beauty – which shows just 27,000 miles on the odometer – will cost a new owner, with the price being given on request for serious inquiries only.

The LT1 engine was a high-output version of GM’s legendary 350 V8 with a solid-lifter camshaft, redesigned pistons, aluminum heads, and a higher compression ratio. Basically, it created a small-block Corvette with horsepower rivaling a big block – but with less weight. The LT1 was offered for only three years during the third-generation run, from 1970 to 1972, but the first-year model when 1,287 units were built is sought after by many collectors because it produced the highest horsepower at 370 (with 380 lb-ft of torque). Only 1,949 followed in ’71, with the run ending with 1,741 in ’72

The owner of this example promises “everything is correct, including transmission, rear end, carburetor, alternator, and radiator” with “complete numbers matching through and through.” Even the original exhaust is said to still be on this Stingray.

As you might expect with such low mileage, the black deluxe leather interior is 100% original. The car’s chrome and glass are all original, but it has undergone one “quality repaint” in its original shade of Classic White.

Included with the car will be the original bill of sale in an original Yenko Chevrolet envelope, tank sticker, and protect-o-plate.

I owned an orange ’71 LT1 coupe for a couple of years but had to sell it for something that was more commuter-friendly (an ’05 convertible) when I changed jobs – still one of my biggest regrets. How would you like to give this ’70 LT1 a shot now?

  1. This LT1 appears to have the AIR smog system. Is that unusual for a ’70 Corvette that was not originally sold through a dealer in California?

  2. Beautiful car , appears to be very well cared for. I don’t think Aluminum heads were on a 1970 LT-1 from the factory. I had a new ’71 Ontario Orange 2 top Convertible, I loved it, I still regret selling it . The only thing wrong with this one is that it isn’t mine .

  3. To somewhat answer DougR’s question, My brand new ’71 LT-1 bought from a dealer in Pennsylvania in November of 1970 had the AIR smog system on it.

  4. @…DougR My ’69 had it and I picked it up in Chicago. Thats probably why a few cars are not completely original now days as guys like me took it off and threw it away.

  5. Interesting. My ’66 originally had the AIR smog system, but then it was originally sold through Lee White Chevrolet in Redondo Beach, California. My understanding is that starting in 1966 it was mandatory for any new Corvette sold in California to be equipped with the AIR system, and the system was available as an option everywhere else. I also understand that relatively few non-California Corvettes were optioned with the AIR system that year. I wonder — did the AIR system subsequently become mandatory in other states besides California, or was it just a case of more non-California buyers choosing to add it as an option?

  6. @DougR Starting in ’68 and continuing in ’69 all Corvettes built came with the AIR system. In ’70 GM changed to CCS, controlled combustion system except for the LT1 which kept the pump. All ’70-’72 LT1’s built came with the AIR system.
