They say most accidents happen with a few miles of your home.

That’s certainly the case with Tom Cotter of the Hagerty “Barn Find Hunter” show on YouTube, who “accidentally” found this car just three miles from his home.

Check out this video and watch Tom’s visit with the owner of this 1979 Corvette, outfitted in the original ’53 colors of white over red.

Tom says he had noticed the Corvette for several weeks sitting alone outside but would only see what he assumed was the owner’s truck nearby at night. Finally, he made it to the site one evening and discovered the owner of the car was a fellow named Adam, who had been looking for awhile for a project Corvette.

Since he happened to have been born in 1979, Adam figured the ’79 Corvette would be a good one to look for, especially since it happens to hold the record for highest production with 53,807 built. Adam found this one two years ago in Virginia on eBay and had it trailered back to his home. Since then, he’s had work done on the steering column and plans to do some suspension work and look into an electrical gremlin that is draining the battery.

He hopes to get it up and running for local travel in the next few months, adding a few more numbers to the indicated mileage of 34,732.5 that he believes to be accurate.

In the video, his four-legged friend Daisy enjoys running around Dad’s new Corvette, which luckily has the more powerful L82 350/225 horsepower engine under the hood. While his Corvette is not currently for sale, Adam says eventually he may move on to another project. Right now, Tom says Hagerty believes it’s worth $11,000 in #4 condition but that figure could climb as high as $40,000 in #1 Concours condition.

As Tom says, things could be worse – “You drive a two-seater sports car for not a lot of money.”

  1. Personally I think he should be kicked in a fragile area for letting this sit “under pecan tree’s ” without cover.
The crap from a pecan tree is acidic and Will destroy paint, as well as gel coat. Not nice stuff to automotive finishes especially older somewhat oxidized. A friend of mine ruined his boat under pecan tree’s, only about 2 seasons and it was never the same. The gelcoat became rough and pitted.
I’m floored that he let’s it sit out “Under Pecans tree’s of all things.” Just sayin!
