Sometimes Cinderella has to wait a while to be asked to the Ball.
That’s certainly the case with this 1963 Corvette convertible that’s been off the road since 1996 but is now seeking its first makeover – perhaps to get all dolled up for a car show.
This vintage Sting Ray – one of 10,919 roadsters that year – is now being offered on eBay, where interest has been high. Already 38 bids have climbed to a high of $41,300, and the auction doesn’t even stop until Wednesday.
This Sting Ray may not be all original, but the bones certainly seem to be there to make a nice restoration or perhaps a cheaper driver.
The car has been repainted at some point in a nice shade of Daytona Blue, covering up its original shade of Tuxedo Black. (Perhaps a return to that color might be appropriate to stick with the Cinderella theme, huh?) Regardless, the tan soft top that might just need a good cleaning provides a nice contrast to the new blue, and also included is a factory hardtop.
Under the hood, the original engine has been replaced with another 327 V8, hooked to a four-speed manual transmission, and the seller promises that the car now runs and drives well.
Inside, the black interior looks to be in good condition overall, and it’d be interesting to see what a thorough cleaning would do for its appearance since it seems to be undamaged for the most part. One thing we’d like to see changed is the replacement aftermarket radio that stands out to us like a sore thumb in a vintage car like this one.
The listing indicates that a new exhaust has been installed, and this Black Plate California car shows no signs of any damage to the body, described as “super straight with no Bondo,” with a “very clean and solid” undercarriage.
As the seller concludes, “This is the way you want to find a Corvette convertible – super straight, rust free, California Black Plate, low mileage (looks like 32,022 miles if that can be validated), unmolested and unrestored.”
Will you be taking this Cinderella to the big dance?
