We told you earlier this week about a crash in which a truck rolled up the front end of a C8 and wound up with the front tires resting on the Corvette’s seats.
Now comes a more detailed description, including a frightening video, of exactly what happened, courtesy of the Corvette driver’s post on the C8 Corvette Owners (and Friends) group on Facebook.
Robert Widom says he was taking his Stingray out “for a peaceful evening drive with the top off” on a “perfect” night and decided to stop by his home to invite his wife to enjoy the ride, too.

“We were just a few blocks away when we approached a stop sign at a four-way intersection with no crosswalks or sidewalks,” he explains. “I rolled past the sign for a better view, almost at a complete stop when a truck from across the intersection came straight at us.”

The Corvette driver says he has removed the audio from the video “because my wife was understandably scared,” but the pictures are more than enough to make us grateful that he and his wife escaped injury.
“In the video, you’ll see the truck heading right for us and hitting us head-on,” Robert says. “After the initial impact, the truck driver continued to accelerate, only stopping after some incredible witnesses intervened. I yelled at them to turn off the truck since it was leaking antifreeze on us.”
Firefighters arrived on the scene and “after a nerve-wracking wait,” they were able to carefully stabilize the truck. It took about 20 minutes to free the Corvette driver and his wife from the car since the truck’s wheels were blocking the doors.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the C8’s engineering – it held up amazingly well,” Robert says, noting that he wanted to share the video on Facebook “because I want you to see how the car protected us and how the truck got where it is.”

The driver of the truck has been arrested, according to the updated post.

Drunk driver? Or just the everyday psycho sharing out streets Most deserving of a .357 hp between the eyes.
Amazing strength of the C8. Driver should be convicted of attempted murder!
Hard to believe even a drunk driver would drive straight into the stopped C8. Glad they were okay. There’s a lot of of squirrels out there with a jealous attitude towards Corvette drivers. I see it when I’m out and every rat car or truck wants to ride my tail or zoom past 40 over the limit and cut in front. Could just be a whacky nut job,there’s plenty out there today.
Probably related to that crazy lady on the airplane that saw an alien sitting next to her.
What is wrong with people?!!! The driver of the truck could have killed or maimed both of them in the corvette! Jerome is correct with his comment that the truck driver be charged with attempted murder!!
What do you want to bet that this guys insurance payments have lapsed. His truck payments have lapsed and he does not have two pesos to rub together. Hope the Corvette owner has adequate insurance. The only consequence will be a few days in jail by the driver of the truck…if that. Oh and a judgement that he will never pay.
