[VIDEO] Brink of Speed Offers a Try-On Haul for C8 Corvette Wheels

Our friends at Brink of Speed have a fun video for us this week and we thought it would by wholly appropriate to share it today and make it a true #WheelsWednesday article.

If you are unfamiliar with a “Try-On Haul” it’s definitely worth a quick search at Google images as the lady social media influencers like to feature themselves trying on a bunch of bathing suits or other clothing all at once. Here, Mike is doing a similar concept but his “Try-On Haul” features trying on different C8 Corvette wheels for the Stingray.

To pull off this “Try-On Haul” for the C8 Wheels, Mike gathers up some friends and they are going to feature four different sets of Forgedlite Wheels along with a couple of sets of OEM wheels on a Red Mist Stingray Convertible. So not only will you see many different wheels designs, but Mike is also showing how a C8 Corvette looks with the 19″/20″ wheels as well as moving up to the staggered set-up of 20″/21″ wheels.

This is a great exercise for anyone considering new wheels for their Corvette, and there are some technical discussions as well as talk about fitment and backspacing to get the right stance.

  1. When they did the weight comparison they compared the 20-spoke OEM wheels with the MC5 Forgeline wheels, which at least visually are much more “open” wheels. Wouldn’t comparing the 20-spoke OEM wheels with the NC20 Forgeline wheels have been more of an “apples to apples” comparison? Also they mentioned later that the OEM tires are run-flats but the tires on the Forgeline wheels are not, which may account for some of the weight difference as well, given that run-flats have a thicker sidewall.

  2. When will someone bring back GUMBY wheels for C8s? Would LOVE to see a polished metal version to match the ones available for the C6.

  3. IMO going flush or having just a little bit of poke definitely looks better than stock. The downside is you might have some rubbing if you hit a pothole or a bump in the road if you’re going fast enough. That’s not a good thing on a Corvette. I liked all the wheels they showed here and Madeline looked good too.

  4. You can see the impact the bright wheels make as to contrast with the cars color. The black wheels get lost in the shuffle.

  5. Just can’t understand the black wheels yes Iam old for me black does nothing. Always chrome or polished. BRINK OF SPEED let’s try a rendering with the rear end in chrome instead of the black or ELIMINATE the black and make it the color of the car.

  6. TG, some people like shiny things. Others like the stealthy or utilitarian look. It’s all good, and no need to trouble yourself to understand some other guy or gal’s choice, or the attention they do or don’t seek. For me, NEVER chrome. It’s heavier, and I get more shiny satisfaction from a polished metal wheel. (Armani is better than Brooks Bros. or an Adidas tracksuit.) No mirrored hood liners for me, either. I do want a wider range of C8 wheel looks, especially some with simpler spoked designs like GUMBY wheels of C6 days.
