The Best Corvettes Up for Grabs this Weekend

Welcome to the weekend, Corvette Nation! We are just a few hours away from the first day of spring and the dawn of ‘Vette season, 2023! It is time to take those covers off, make sure your batteries are charged up, plan those summer road trips/car show appearances/track dates, and maybe even welcome some new fiberglass into your four-wheeled family. Seriously, who doesn’t immediately think of the pitter-patter of a new small-block V8 as the spring equinox approaches? With the rejuvenating spirit of spring in our hearts, your friends at CorvetteBlogger have taken the liberty of rounding up the most seductive examples of Corvette for sale during this final week of winter.

C1: The classics section of this post is pretty sparse because we didn’t run across any Sharks or Midyears that flat jumped off the page like this striking recreation of the 1954 Motorama Corvette Corvair offered by our friends at 427Stingray.com with a starting bid of just $5,000. According to the listing, this is one-half of a pair of exquisite tributes done by the same builder and is thought to represent, at minimum, 20% of the total hardtop ’54 recreations extant. Instead of a blue flame-six, you’ll find a snarling 265-ci V8 under the hood of this otherwise accurate clone of the “coolest car that no longer exists.” It is hard to gauge the market for something like this; it was bid to $60,000 and went unsold at Mecum’s 2022 Indy sale. We will be watching the auction with interest with the hopes that it hammers this time around!

C4: We will be jumping forward 41 years for our second listing, which features one of the great deals in the Corvette world. Whenever we hear “1996 Corvette,” our minds automatically conjure images of a white skunk stripe breaking up a shining sea of Admiral Blue. The Grand Sport easily earns the title of most desirable final-year C4, and, with its rarity and good looks, it even makes a strong case for the overall C4 throne. What many people don’t remember is that the GS’s one-year-special LT4 V8, which added 30 horses to the already potent LT1, was installed in all manual transmission Corvettes ordered in 1996. The example that popped up on VetteFinders is a black-on-black stunner that completes its sinister look with a set of black five-spoke GS wheels. With 80k on the clock, it is a well-cared-for driver’s grade example that is listed for ten g’s less than any GS you’re likely to find while bringing 100% of the performance to the table. This one really hits the right notes!

C5: We think the folks at Bring a Trailor might have discovered a portal to the early 2000s because it seems like each week brings a C5 Z06 in brand new condition to their listings. This week, it is a perfect < AHREF="https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2003-chevrolet-corvette-z06-96/">Torch Red 2003 with just 1,500 miles on the clock! Bidding doesn’t close until Wednesday the 15th, but it has already reached a high bid of $32,555 as of writing on Friday afternoon!

2003 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

C6: Our C6 of the week just braved the Minnesota winter, and it has to be the best spring/summer car in this whole write-up! The sixth-generation swan song married the mighty 427-cube LS7 with a convertible body for the only time in the legendary motor’s 10-year production run. Since leaving Bowling Green in 2013, this C6.R-simulating Black and Yellow special has covered 28,343 miles and has become tantalizingly affordable at just $55,695!

2013 Corvette 427 Convertible

C7: We couldn’t choose between this pair of C7Zs, so you’re getting double the action. First, up is a MINT C7.R Edition doing its best Johnny Cash impression in all black. It has a seven-speed manual transmission and shows just 340 miles from new! This one is so nice that we’d almost feel bad driving it, almost. On the auction side of the market, we return to BAT for an example straight out of your author’s 2019 configurator musings. All of my must-have options are here; Z07, M7, Sebring Orange; it is almost perfect! I say almost because I probably would have changed the caliper color and spec’d the comp seats, but this beauty is difficult to argue with! With the clock showing just 22 hours left until the hammer falls, it has already reached $72,717; if your taste is similar to mine, but you happen to have some money lying around, I hope you get to this rare find in time!

Corvette Adjacent: The Corvette has supplied power to so many other great cars over the years that I like to close with one of these cousins to our favorite car. It seems like we’ve talked about last year models a lot in this piece, and sticking with that theme, I’d like to offer up a 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP. This isn’t just the last of a particular model or generation; it represents the final member of the entire Pontiac line. Under the “bonnet” of this Australian barn-stormer resides an LS3 V8 good for 415 horses and an equal helping of twist, which are sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed row-your-own gearbox. According to the private New Hampshire-based seller, it is one of only 22 delivered in the hot Liquid Red color with Onyx insides, a stick, and – this in-the-know wording is one of the reasons I’d opt for THIS G8 over a couple of lower mileage options – a slicktop (it doesn’t have a sunroof). $41,900 can score you this beautiful 41,500-mile slice of Pontiac/Holden/GM history.
