Corvettes for Sale: A 454-Powered 1962 Corvette Hits Bring a Trailer

As wild as it may look, this 1962 Corvette “gasser” drag race car is apparently just as comfortable on a city street as it is on the drag strip.

After more than four decades with the same owner, the car is now being offered on Bring a Trailer, where the high bid has climbed to $38,500 with three days left in the auction.

Growing up, I had a 1/8 scale 1963 Corvette model car that had such a setup. At the time I didn’t understand what the purpose was for the strange-looking equipment poking out of the hood – I just knew it was so cool looking to a 10-year-old.

A few years (er, decades) later, this ’62 reminds me of that model car and is just as cool-looking.

After being modified as a gasser, this red over black vinyl car, with a removable body-color hardtop and tan soft top, is said to have resided with the same owner in California from 1968 to 2022. Who can blame him for hanging onto this car so long?

Back then, it was converted to the current 454 V8 engine with dual Holley 650-cfm carburetors, connected to a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission and 12-bolt rear end. The 454 includes Winters aluminum cylinder heads and Weland tunnel-ram intake manifold and is connected to a dual exhaust system with tube headers.

On the listing, the selling dealer – who bought the car in 2022 – offers up a fun video showing this Corvette doing a burnout, then in another video takes us for a ride and points out how streetable the car remains, despite its daunting appearance. He says the big V8 offers up plenty of power and the front disc brakes provide lots of stopping power. Furthermore, despite its solid axle, he claims the ride is not bad.

He’s already performed a brake service and tune-up and replaced the hardtop windows, tires, carburetors, distributor, and fuel pump, getting it ready for a new owner.

How would you like to have this ’62 in your garage?
