The driver of this speeding C5 Corvette managed to elude California authorities briefly, but eventually was arrested and then had his car taken away Friday night.

Responding to reports of street racing at Ramco Street and Southport Parkway, the West Sacramento Police Department spotted the Corvette and tried to make a traffic stop. Instead, the driver sped off, leading to a chase that reached speeds of more than 100 mph before officers called it off due to concern for the safety of the public.

But that was not the end of the story for the Corvette.

With the help of the California Highway Patrol, the Corvette was later located in Sacramento and the unidentified driver now faces unspecified charges after being booked into Yolo County Jail and having his car impounded.

“We greatly appreciate the partnership with our community and allied agencies in responding to street racing incidents such as this,” West Sacramento Police said in a Facebook post.

  1. Don’t punish the Corvette. If the owner can’t afford to get it out of the impound, sell it to a deserving owner.

  2. Reminds me of the old saying…..”you may outrun the cop behind you, but you sure can’t outrun his Motorola radio”……jut sayin’,bless your heart…….. : o )

  3. And how are they going to prove he was driving at the time of the evasion? From just the info given, which says the chase was called off, the evader could have dropped the car off back home after which his dad took it out to get groceries.
