A 21-year-old Corvette driver in Virginia has the dubious distinction of setting the fastest speed ever clocked by the Leesburg, Virginia Police Department.

Luke Jones of Leesburg came roaring past an officer going 88 mph ABOVE the legal limit in his blue 2007 Corvette coupe on Virginia Route 7 near Battlefield Parkway just before 5 p.m. on May 11.

The officer clocked the Corvette at a whopping 133 mph – in a 45 mph zone – which Leesburg police spokesman Michael Drogin says to his knowledge is the fastest speed a driver has ever been charged by the department.

Generally, speeding is treated as a traffic offense, but Jones faces a mandatory appearance in court on a more serious misdemeanor criminal charge of reckless driving by speed.

We’re impressed that an officer in a 2014 Ford Police Interceptor Sedan was able to catch up with Jones.

The department posted this tweet about the incident:

We thought that it went without saying, however last week one of our officers had to remind a motorist that traveling 133 mph in a 45 mph zone is NEVER acceptable! Remember, we all play a part in #TrafficSafety. PLEASE drive at the posted speed limit! #SlowDown

Again, we’ll remind folks that even though Corvettes are fast automobiles, that doesn’t mean you should treat public roads as the Autobahn. Take it to the track, people!

  1. I live just a few mile from the intersection of Rt7 and Battlefield Pkwy. Rt 7 is a 6 lane highway with a hill and a sweeping left with heavy traffic near that intersection. I don’t see how this guy was doing 133mph during 5PM rush hour traffic.

  2. Officer : Sir, do you know why I stopped you?

C6 Driver : Uhm, because I pulled over and let you?

  3. Virginia has the strictest and most severe punishments for speeding in the country. Fool is going to spend some time in the gray bar hotel.
