Some folks think 1969 was the pinnacle of the muscle car era.

The original owner of this 1969 Corvette Stingray coupe would no doubt agree with that assessment, especially since he had checked the box for the optional 427/400 horsepower engine under the hood when placing his order. He was one of just 2,072 people who chose that added power that arrived at a cost of $326.55.

Other 427 engines were also available, including the L71 427/435 (2,722 sold at a cost of $437.10) and the L88 427/430 (116 sold at a cost of $1,032.15).

Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, this particular Corvette began to fall into disrepair, and it has been sitting since 1977 and that highly desirable engine last ran in the early ‘80s.

That’s the word, according to an eBay listing where this classic C3 Corvette remains up for grabs through Saturday night. Already, 42 bids have pushed their way to a high of $9,151.00.

Whoever wins the auction will have their work cut out for them, but it should be worth the effort. While the matching-numbers 427 and four-speed manual transmission are still in place, the Tri-Power set-up is gone. The body will also need some work, including a new paint job, of course, not to mention the installation of original-style side fender vents that have been replaced with later-model examples.

As for the rest of the car, the seller claims “most everything is there,” but that doesn’t include the interior door panels or exterior door handles that should prove easy enough to find in the aftermarket.

Since the car has been parked so long, we’d be inclined to believe that the 37,000 miles showing on the odometer might really be accurate. That low mileage doesn’t mean the car is still in tip-top condition, of course, but maybe it does mean the powerful engine will have many more miles left in it once it is coaxed back to life.

  1. I wouldn’t pay 9000 cents for that , the whole body is wrong. God knows what else?? Pucker up, unless You can do it all yourself. Goodluck

  2. Everything on that car appears to be incorrect for a ‘69 and/or AFU. Even if you get it for free and have to pay to have it hauled off you are already in the red. Hard pass.

  3. Agree with Bill and Doug. Someone had big plans for this handsome devil, too bad everything they did just lowered it’s value.
