If you’re looking for a low initial investment to start your life as a Corvette hobbyist, you might want to consider this 1985 Corvette that is being offered on Craigslist out of the Los Angeles area for a “firm” $1,200.
Of course, your investment won’t stay very low for long, considering all the work that this car will need to get it road-worthy again.
The seller says it’s been sitting for the past 15 years “at a friend of the family’s house.” Not surprisingly, now she wants help getting rid of it.
Still, having been around when these early C4s were all the rage, I can’t help but wonder what this customized Miami-Vice style Corvette looked like when it was first completed. If I squint really hard, I can even see Don Johnson sitting behind the wheel.
But then I’m snapped back into reality with one look at the photo under the hood, a literal rat’s nest of gobbledy-gook atop the 350 engine, which by the way no longer runs.
It’s still connected to a Doug Nash 4+3 manual transmission, though we wonder if that’s a good thing or not since parts for these are hard to find nowadays.
While we may be in the minority here, we actually like the customized body panels that add some pizazz to the relatively boring style of the C4.
Elsewhere, the interior features cloth seats, though they’re not in very good repair now. The dash also needs some work.
Overall, if you’re really into these early C4s (and I owned three of them myself), you’d be far smarter to skip this one and find yourself a low-mileage garage queen that doesn’t need quite so much work.

I really like the extra body kit. The C4’s are the ugliest generation in my opinion. If you don’t put some kind of body kit on them they’re not very fun to look at. This one just needs paint to be easy in the eyes again. The other details make for an extensive project car.
