On Saturday afternoon during the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, members of the Corvette Team hosted a C8 Z06 chassis discussion and answered questions from racing fans in attendance. Held at the Chevrolet display on Sebring’s Midway, the conversation was hosted by Vehicle Chief Engineer Josh Holder, Corvette Product Marketing Manager Harlan Charles, and Corvette Structural Engineer Ed Moss.

The sound at the track was loud as you can imagine and the PA speakers were not really able to compete with the high-performance sports cars racing down the front straight which was just behind us. However, the racing sounds are very appropriate when you’re talking about the 2023 Corvette Z06’s LT6 V8 engine that was developed in tandem with the C8.Rs racing engine. Josh points to the LT6.R that’s mounted on an engine stand next to the C8.R on display and he goes through some of the various components that are on both engines.

Josh says the widebody design is designed to wear wider tires which helps put more rubber to the road, while also opening up the side intakes to suck in copious amounts of air. The aero package offers the most downforce in a more efficient way than any other Corvette ever made. As for drivability, it’s still a great touring car and is very liveable.

“We describe it as physical, scalpel-like and that’s what it really is. The car is immediate in its response that the tuning of the chassis all the way back to the engine mounts, we wanted you to be able to feel everything about what it’s like to drive a race car for the streets.”

Harlan takes us through what makes the Z06 unique compared to the Stingray and then goes through some of the new options for dressing up the interior like the level 2 carbon fiber package. During Harlan’s segment, he says the Z06 will be out later this summer.

Ed Moss says that no one ever gets to see what he does as the Corvette structural engineer so he built the cutaway chassis that shows the aluminum structure and how it’s put together. Josh says it’s the most efficient Corvette structure ever built, the lightest, and the stiffest which is over the top. As the chassis was designed first for the convertible model, the engineers started up the Z06 and then demonstrated closing and opening the hardtop Convertible.

  1. Has anyone noticed GM is making Tadge Jucter’s presence scarce at venues (like this one) where he was formerly front & center. His replacement? No surprise: Josh Holder. But why? Is Tadge’s retirement imminent? Is Josh in line for advancement? Probably. What do we know about Tadge’s age? Is he close to mandatory retirement?

Tadge will forever be revered as the man who actually brought the mid-engine Corvette to life — after the ’63 Stingray, the most important model in Corvette history. By all accounts, he has done one hell of a job. Along with Zora, he’ll be remembered & enshrined at the NCM. Deservedly so. When the time comes, I hope he gets a stupendous send-off. Meanwhile, I miss his encyclopedic knowledge of all things Corvette.

  2. Three years ago at Laguna Seca I was at the Corvette Corral talking to an individual close to Tadge and high up in the GM circle and was told Tadge was in his seventies and was staying around long enough to see the C8 through its model growth which means he is nearing the end of his tenure by choice I am sure. I have heard him speak many times, what a brilliant man. He will be missed and may he have wonderful retirement when that day comes.
