Corvettes for Sale: Nassau Blue 327/300-hp 1965 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe

The owner of this 1965 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe – up for auction on Bring a Trailer for the next four days – must feel as though he’s losing a member of the family.

After all, he’s owned this car for a quarter of a century, including three years when it served as his daily driver.

While this classic second-generation Sting Ray has a few minor flaws, overall we’re very impressed with the condition of this Nassau Blue coupe.

The current high bid is $38,000, and if we were the seller, that would be far too low. In a series of informative videos, he candidly shares the strengths and weaknesses of the car, with the good far outweighing the bad, at least in our opinion.

For example, we see the headlights rotate open and closed, with all four lamps working properly, as do the turn signals and brake lights. The chrome bumpers look nice and shiny, the car cranks nicely from a cold start, and its numbers-matching 327/300 horsepower engine (hooked to a four-speed manual transmission) runs well. The interior likewise is in excellent condition, with the blue vinyl seats and the rest of the interior looking as new, not surprisingly since the seller says the seats, carpet, door panels, and various interior trim pieces being replaced in the past year.

1965, of course, marked the introduction of four-wheel disc brakes on the Corvette, with four-piston calipers on each corner.

Just as buyers did back in 1965, we dig the Nassau Blue paint, which was the No. 1 choice back in the day with 6,022 units leaving the St. Louis factory in that shade. By the way, only 8,186 coupes were built, with another 15,378 convertibles for a total of 23,564.

About the only flaw of the car is its paint, which the owner admits he would repaint if he were going to keep it. Even at that, the car still looks very good for a driver, with the major flaws being a small crack in the front fender of the right passenger side, scuffed windshield, and assorted minor chips and scrapes. Still, this appears to be a car that would be enjoyable to drive right now, and when the financial picture was right, it could be turned into a real showstopper without much effort.

What do you think about this Sting Ray coupe that’s spent most of its life in California before being acquired by the seller and taken to Colorado and Arizona?

  1. Beautiful Blue Stingray but I prefer my C8 Elkhart Lake Blue Stingray that gives over 500 mile range on the road and is faster then anything that doesn’t cost over $200k. Thanks Bowling Green for not building fast enough to meet demand. I really appreciate my C8…. By over $25k!

  2. Gorgeous car. Too bad this color (or the mako shark livery) is not offered on the C8. Congrats in advance to the buyer!

  3. If I had the budget, would buy this in a flash. This vette is a perfect Cruiser and has the bling factor in spaids with my favorite colour and perfect exhaust note with the side pipes. The side fender louvers of the 65 are the best design in terms of # of slots.
