Corvette for Sale: Four-Speed 1977 Corvette With 16K Miles

Back in the mid-’70s, the Corvette had grown into somewhat of a boulevard cruiser, with performance levels hindered by federal regulations.

Still, we didn’t know the kind of power that was coming in future years, so we flocked to the Corvette in record numbers. Indeed, the 1977-79 period represents the largest three-year production ever for the Chevrolet sports car.

Included in the 149,796 Corvettes produced during that span is this lightly used ’77 that has covered just 16,000 miles since being built in the St. Louis factory. It’s up for sale on Bring a Trailer, wherewith six days left in the auction the offers have already hit $13,000. Not bad, considering the original MSRP was just $10,224.

1977 marked the return of Black exterior paint for the first time since Tuxedo Black in 1969, and buyers ate it up – with some 6,070 produced in that color, second behind 9,408 Classic White examples.

This Stingray features the original 350 V8 that produced just 180 horsepower, but it does have a four-speed manual transmission for the thrill-seekers out there. The black interior, meanwhile, looks just like you would expect from such a low-mileage car and will need little attention.

The car features removable T-top roof panels, slotted 15-inch aluminum wheels, power four-wheel disc brakes, dual exhausts, air conditioning, power steering, and a Delco AM/FM 8-track stereo. The Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires likely need replacing due to age since they show a build date of 1993.

Originally sold new at Kenney Chevrolet in Johnstown, Ohio, this Corvette wound up in Alabama before going to the current owner in Georgia in 2021. Fortunately, the current owner has undertaken several repair projects, including rebuilding the carburetor, air conditioning compressor, and alternator; replacing the valve cover gaskets and brake master cylinder; changing the oil; and performing a paint correction, including touchup on the nose.

  1. I’d take that Corvette but I would have to change out that ugly plastic Vega steering wheel that was initially carried over from the 76 Corvettes. I used to own a later model 77 Corvette that came with the much better looking three spoke steering wheel.
