Corvettes for Sale: 1966 Corvette 427/425 L72 Coupe on Bring a Trailer

The owner of this award‑winning 1966 Corvette L72 coupe says he never planned to let it go.

But life has a way of reshuffling priorities, and with a major change in his living situation looming, the car can’t make the move with him. So this Laguna Blue stunner is back on Bring a Trailer, two years after the seller purchased it for $118,000.

As of today, bidding sits at $75,000 with five days left — and the comments section is already buzzing.

This ’66 coupe started life at H.E. Baher Chevrolet in Manhattan Beach, and its current owner acquired it on BaT in August 2024. The car underwent a full cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment back in 2013 — a body‑off job that included stripping the fiberglass and refinishing it in Laguna Blue.

Under the hood sits the legendary 427ci L72 V8, factory‑rated at 425 horsepower and paired with an M21 four‑speed and PosiTraction with 3.70 gears. It rides on turbine‑style aluminum wheels and stops with power‑assisted four‑wheel discs. Inside, you get black vinyl buckets, power windows, and an AM/FM radio.

The documentation is as heavy as the big block itself: Protect‑O‑Plate, repro window sticker, Bloomington Gold, 2024 NCRS Top Flight, MCACN Concours Gold, and more.

Early in the comments, the seller — Dave (@dbert8) — jumps in to give the car some personal context:

“I bought the car two years ago from a guy who kept it in a climate‑controlled museum inside his house for 10 years.”

Dave’s an NCRS member in the Rocky Mountain chapter, and he didn’t just buy the car — he campaigned it. Shortly after acquiring it, he trailered it to the Lone Star Regional, where it scored 95.9 points and earned Top Flight. He had planned to take it to the national meet in Las Vegas, but an injury sidelined those plans.

He adds:

“I am certain it would have been judged Top Flight again at that level.”

Dave lists the car’s post‑restoration accolades, all included with the sale:

• 2014 NCRS Top Flight – Midwest Chapter
• 2014 Bloomington Gold
• 2014 MCACN Concours Gold
• 2014 MCACN Triple Diamond
• 2024 NCRS Top Flight – Texas Regional

He emphasizes that the car has remained untouched since the 2013 restoration — aside from carb adjustments for altitude, a Delco battery, and the bolt‑on knockoff‑style wheels.

And he’s candid about the walkaround video:

“I’m recovering from a leg injury and was wearing a walking boot… the exposure didn’t turn out as I would have liked.”

Still, he uploaded plenty of photos showing how the Laguna Blue paint pops in direct sunlight — a one‑year‑only color for C2s that commenters repeatedly praise.

One of the most useful clarifications Dave provides concerns the wheels:

“The goldline tires and original Kelsey‑Hayes knockoffs are included… Those are only for shows. The Cooper radials are for street driving.”

He explains that the car originally came with steel wheels, and the K‑H turbines were a dealer add‑on — consistent with the repro window sticker. The reproduction bolt‑on wheels currently on the car were purchased in 2024 and are what he recommends for driving.

He also notes a small paint chip on the driver’s door edge — the only blemish he’s aware of — and says he left it untouched because it’s minor and non‑rusting.

The L72 big block remains factory‑spec, and Dave has only added 222 miles in two years. The carburetor was rebuilt and tuned for altitude, and the car scored a perfect 760/760 in the Operations section at the 2024 Regional — meaning every switch, knob, light, and window works.

One interesting detail: the car has power brakes, but that option was added during restoration using factory‑correct parts. Judges nearly missed it, but it received a small deduction for non‑originality. Dave stands by the choice: “It makes the car more pleasant to drive.”

The comments section reads like a love letter to mid‑year Corvettes.

VintageAce67 chimes in: “Looks great in Laguna Blue. Thank you for maintaining this beauty.”

Fuelieguy, a longtime Corvette voice, adds: “‘66 Corvettes just don’t get any better than this. Laguna Blue is the best color by far.”

And bbilly offers a heartfelt note to Dave: “Life throws us curves… Keep those memories in your heart, sir.”

Dave responds with gratitude — and a hint of sadness: “I’m definitely proud of it. I just wish I could enjoy it longer.”
