Here’s a fun new video from YouTuber EddieX who got to ride along in both the standard C8 Z06 as well as one equipped with the Z07 Performance Package.
Eddie was invited by Chevrolet to visit the Corvette Team in Detroit and part of that experience included a ride in both versions of America’s newest sportscar, the 2023 Corvette Z06. If you like hearing that exhaust note from the C8 Corvette’s 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine then you will absolutely love this video.
It was a wet day that Eddie rode with along with Lead Development Engineer Aaron Link and Ride and Handling Engineer Alex MacDonald, so they were a bit “traction-limited” on the drive. Aaron Link was driving the standard Z06 and he very much enjoyed pulling back the shift paddles and letting that new LT6 V8 roar. Eddie then jumped into the Z07 with Alex MacDonald and got the low-down on the major differences between the cars.
Those differences include stiffer spring rates and custom changes to the magnetic ride control dampers and traction control system. The carbon fiber wheels require changes to the Z07’s steering to make it even more responsive to the lighter wheels. Another interesting tidbit is that no cylinder deactivation is on the LT6 and even the cylinder firing order is different due to the FPC architecture.

Start/stop technology and cylinder deactivation is a nuisance! Glad to see that the Z06 is devoid of those features.
It doesn’t look or sound like a Corvette! But Eddie seems to being enjoying himself immensely! And in the end I guess that’s all that matters.
Sorry but “it doesn’t look or sound like a Corvette” is the stupidest argument ever. Sure don’t evolve the platform so that it still “looks” like a corvette to the old fogies who care. The Design is clearly a MASSIVE success for GM and Corvette and Performance of this platform is best Corvette has seen.
Daniel W, what is stupid is a company directly copying another companies design like GM did with the C8 Z06. From the sound of the 458, to the Koenigsegg wing on the back of the Z07. Apparently GM ran out of ideas when it came to creating the 8th generation of the Corvette.
LMAOOO sounds better than 458 actually and if that looks like a copy of a Koenigsegg to you then I nor anybody else has anything to offer you except maybe Lasik surgery. But yeah goes GM had no innovation on this one at all lol. ?
Whatever. But at least GM was able to do it without copying the price. Right?
Daniel W, the Ferrari 458 Italia was and still is one of the best sounding and looking cars ever made! And Ferrari did that without any assistance from the competition.
Doug, they can’t copy the price because the lack quality and fit & finish wouldn’t warrant that. Pull any Corvette off of the assembly line and compare it to it’s European counterparts and you will see the massive difference in quality control almost immediately between those manufacturers.
Finally an engineer from GM talking about The LS7 Heritage of N/A in a Z06…. Tadge once mentioned that they explored 8K rpm on the LS7. Obviously there was reliability issues, so a dial back to 7K rpm. Second, emissions standards.
Few people understand what makes the LT6 special and it will be as legendary as the LS7 for complementary reasons.
